Need more fish.

I have a 100g Reef. SPS/LPS/Xenia and aiptasia.

I lost my bright purple pseudo-chromis due to lack of 0xygen and figure it is time to replace him now that the heat is normal and I have a generator ready to go if the power dies again.

Current inhabitants:

Yellow Tang, 8 years old, not big by any means and doesn't bother anyone but it's always been his tank p.s. what's the life span of these bad-boys

Green Chromis... I had six of them and a week later I had this one.

One Skunk Clown.. at least 5 yrs old and lost his/her buddy a couple of yrs back.

2 Serpent stars

Ceriths

Hermits (mainly scarlets)

I'll probably get 2 cleaner shrimps.

All in all not many fish and the kids like the fish more than the coral so it's time.

Tyler, feel free to let us know if you have any of the suggestions as your my lfs of choice.

Thanks

For sure another skunk clown....doh! If you can get a school of babies, that'll be fun to watch. And who could not mention the hillarious lawnmower blenny! Flame Hawks are always personable too. What do you like?

Definitely some type of dwarf angel. Perhaps a goby?? Opossum wrasses are cool too. I like bangaii cardinals, or any cardinal for that matter. Niger trigger perhaps, if you can find one on the smaller end of the scale. Anyway, just a few ideas. Good luck.

8 years is a really long time in captivity for any fish, and judging by my personal marginal success with yellow tangs I'd say that's pretty good.

A dwarf angel would definitely be nice. I've tried twice over the years with a Coral Beauty though and both lasted a very short time; I think it's a beautiful fish but I don't think I could deal with killing three of them :) . Is the flame hardier? Was I just unlucky with the Coral Beauty.

Both sound from the liveaquaria site to be coral nippers though. I know.... some do some don't.

Wrasse, that's an idea.

I love the lawnmower Blennie too. How much do they really nip at corals?

I guess my main reason for posting this is that everytime I look at t afish description on-line, they say something to the effect that the fish may nip at sps or clams....or attack other fish that look like it does. Some of the wrasse though do seem to get a reef-safe rating at least.

Thanks for the help.

I've never had much luck with Dwarf Angels, don't get me wrong I have 2 now, but in an SPS tank my SPS NEVER had any sort of appreciable polyp extension, having removed the dwarves and stuck them in a softy tank polyps are out like crazy. Now is this the fish's fault or some other variable that allowed this I don't know, but either way I dont think I'll be putting dwarf angels in my sps tank every again.

I've been scared away from the Lawnmower Blenny as well being as descriptions mark it as "May nip at SPS & Clam mantles".

And finally I would stay away from the cleaner shrimp if you ever spot feed anything like LPS corals, those little sominawitches managed to be very creative and quickly learn where food is. IMHO, if you stay away from the shrimp market you can very easily get some more not-so-reef safe fishes like hawkfish and other ones with lots of personality (but known for eatting shrimp).

Have a coral beauty in an 80 gallon softie tank. Does fine with all those corals, clownfish, coris wrasse, shrimps, and australian damsel. Hangs out with all the other fishes.

i have a couple cleaners and a blood shrimp in my mixed tank, when feeding corals, just throw the shrimp a few pellets or pieces of frozen food first, that will keep them out of trouble while feeding the lps, etc. for me.

if you have some sand on the bottom, i always like the variety of gobies available. i currently have a randall's, but the diamond (sand sifter), yellow watchman or other shrimp gobies are cool.

lawnmower blennies sometimes get a bit big for my taste. bicolor blennies are cool, as are black-spot blennies.

a skunk clown to go with the other one would be cool. dunno, i like anthias, but you need to have pretty good water conditions and make sure your tang doesn't get too aggressive. wrasses are cool too.

I had both a lawnmower blenny and bicolored angel and never had problems but I guess it's hit and miss. If you didn't have a skunk I'd suggest these black and white perculas I got. How about a mandarin. Since your tank is 100g you'd probably be one of the few that can keep them well fed with microfauna

Gobies are a possibility but it's hard to get my circulation set up as it is that doesn't blow it around, so I think I might get frustrated as they drop the sand into the current.... I guess a non-sand-sifting one might work out.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone.

I am a sucker for "cleaner" type gobies, dottybacks and shrimp gobies.

So maybe a couple Neon or Shark Nose Gobies, a pair of Orchid Dottybacks or Springers Dottyback and a couple Aurora Shrimp Gobies.

On angels, perhaps a Lamark Angel (reef safe), Lemon Peel, Atlantic Pygmy or Swallow Tail.

Cardinals are another weakness of mine, esp. Bangaii and Blue Eyed.

Definately add another Skunk Clown though.

Good Luck,

tyler
