I have a 28 gal tank cycling atm, and was posted on another post that I could use another pound or 2 of live sand. Right now I have 20 lbs of LS and 20lbs of LR, I was curious if I should get another 10 lb bag or if all it would do is just make it that I have more substrate.

Thanks for the input in advance

I wouldn't bother with much live sand for that size tank, and the bagged live sand isn't live enough to be useful, in any case. An inch or so of sand for looks should be fine.

:) Good advice. The live rock 20lbs noted will handle denitrification for you.

Should i go from crushed shells to live sand in my 125 i have 100# of live rock and working on making some lr would it be enough to make a defrence its about $30-$36 a bag around here

Crushed shells and crushed coral collect detrius and get messy over time. This large material also provides less surface area for bacteria and is inefficient as a denitrifier compared to smaller grained materials. I would just get some fine oolictic sugar grain sand for aesthetics(beach look)and a bit of denitrification.Idon't think you need "live sand", the rock should seed it.I use oolicitc sand .It's about 2inches in the rear of the tank and about a half inch in front this provides enough depth in certain spots for burrowing fish etc.

i had sand at one time years ago and had what i was told to be problems with dead sand they said after a while it wil build nitrates if it doesnt get moved around i got some sand sifters but never did figure out what the deal was and slowly lost everythin in the tank. there is nat alot of choice around here for sand i got the shells because they where on clearence for $8 20# i dont have any problems with nitrates nitrites amona and i dont do water changes havent for about 6 or 7 months
