need opinions on my system

My long time girlfriend and I very recently split up and the prospect of breaking down my system is really getting to me. Is there any way to get this thing reliable and efficient enough to be on its own for 4 days a week? I have an AC Apex available to me but Im having a hard time programming it.

Please help if you have any ideas. The thought of losing my hibby and my family at the same time is killing me.

The apex can be very reliable. You would need to invest a little effort and money. A reliable float with the I/O breakout box for the apex has done well with topping off, an auto feeder has been a key to keeping fishes in my tank fed as I work CRAZY hours in the spring and winter. I usually only have enough time to feed occasionally and do water changes and tweak a few things. I would certainly post any help questions on the Neptune forum here on RC to get your alarms and email set up. A water/moisture sensor would be a great idea and possibly even a network camera so you can see what's going on, and in the case of an emergency leave a key with family or friend or even a hide a key and I'm sure that a fellow reefer would be willing to help a reefer in need.
Very sorry to hear of your situation, hope that things will come together for you.

Ryan, I manage it all summer using an AC 3, an auto feeder, a big RO/DI reservoir that drips, a drain on the skimmer collection cup and a webcam. Feel free to ask for more details. I'd be happy to help out. It's definitely doable as long as your expectations for the tank are realistic.

Justin the 4 days a week of being gone is a career thing. Its been 8 years and I have 30 to go...

Ill have to see if I can get the apex up and running then look into the breakout bkx.

Scott Im sure Ill be talking to you soon. My expectations arent overly high at this point. Softies and some lps are all Im realistically looking at right now. Possibly even going fowlr.

Absolutely! I have mine where I can be gone 2 weeks. Ato, water changes. Feeding.

4 days no problem. Send me a pm and we can chat during the evening sometime, glad to help

I'm really sorry Ryan. That sucks.

I traveled for a few years as a consultant and geared my whole system around surviving on its own for 4-5 days. I don't know anything about the apex. I did it all with digitial timers and drews dosers for my 2 part, auto top off, eheim autofeeder, and a fail safe overflow. If you're ever in Buffalo I'd be happy to give you a tour of my setup in case it gives you any ideas.

of all the possible companions a fellow could have (dog, cat, girlfriend, wife etc.) an aquarium can do very well without attention 4 days a week.

Just do it.
