Need skimmer info

Hi:)

My daughter and her hubby just left on vacation for two weeks and I'm taking care of her reef system. She has an old counter current skimmer that just quit working. She has asked me to research a new skimmer for her. Cost is of importance so she'll need somehthing fairly economical. I have heard that Euroreef is the best but there is some kind of "knock off" out there that is good too.......anyone make a suggestion as to what skimmer I should be looking in to? She has a 135 gallon reef tank with a 100 gallon rubbermaid sump in the basement. So will need something to handle about 250 gallons. Thanks for any/all suggestions...............

How big is the current counter-current skimmer? Is it something that can be modified into a recirculating skimmer? If the reaction chamber is appropriately sized for the tank, that would probably be the cheapest option. I don't know much about new skimmers, sorry I'm no help there.

I'm a fan of the Needle wheel skimmers. I have an asm G2 and I like it very much. Basically just plug it in and adjust the riser and you're done! I've heard a lot of really good things about the octupus skimmers lately as well. Theres quite a few people in the club running them I know.

I would say that the octopus skimmers are a good buy. For body size and skimming capibilities along with price it's hard to beat them. I know I love mine

Thanks for the replies......going to check out the Reef Octopus and see what available........sounds like a lot of you like it:)

Not sure how to answer your question Ryan......I'm a granny with limited knowledge about counter current skimmers!

Octopus is awesome, best skimmer for the price and probably just as good as the more expensive ones.

I have an ASM G3. Good skimmer. I really do think it has the best price vs performance out of any skimmer on the market.

After researching and giving her the info, she has decided to go with the ASM G4. Looks like it will be a nice skimmer........thanks for the replies and info regarding the different skimmers......really appreciate it........
