Need some approvals for a plan

So I've finally came up with an excuse to help reconcile starting a second tank in my head. Namely my 6line wrasse harassing my watchman goby.

I have a 29G tank from before my 55upgrade. Might run two T-8 fixtures or might run a single 150 halide not sure yet. I was considering a pair of erectus or reidi as they seem to be most common.

For corals i was going to frag out some of the more hardy low light/cool water stuff from the reef, a few shroom varieties, gsp and pulsing xenia. Ive got a HOB filter one of the double waterfall types. Considering running that and a maxi jet 1200 for flow.

For rock i think im going to go the route i did first starting this hobby, mostly cheap base rock. I will just leave it in the display for a month or so to get some bacteria and maybe feed the empty tank for a bit to make sure it can handle a bioload.

I know some may not like this but i dont like the over grown forest of green look. I'm thinking i will add just a few patches of caulerpa prolifera here and there and keep them in patches.

Tankmates: my watchman goby of course, but not sure what else i know i want to add one more fish aside from the pair of horses but not sure and dont like fire fish.

So... tear some holes in it and tell me i need to go read more :lolspin: really though advice?

Sounds like a plan. Altho you can keep SH fine under MH, they don't require it and you'll have a tuffer time maintaining the required lower temp that SH require (74*F max) unless you run a chiller or have a cool house and run a fan over the tank.

I'm not a fan of PH at all, esp. in a SH setup. If you feel the need for additional flow, you might just drop a piece of open-ended airline tubing into the tank and run an air pump. If you do run a PH, make sure it has a guard on the intake to keep the SH out of it. Likewise, if you run a heater, make sure it has a guard on it as well (I've seen several SH with heater burns from hitching to a heater).

I'm worried about cyno problems with very low flow. I know nutrients are also a factor but increased flow has always knocked it out for me. Perhaps I'll run an additional small freshwater type hob filter for a bit more flow. I'm overly anal about having a clean, algae free tank and cyno just ticks me off to no end when it forms in dead spots.

I do know I am not going to run a heater or any koralia type powerhead.

I know shrooms and xenias etc. are about bullet proof, but can gsp grow under t-8 lights? Perhaps I'll experiment with some LED lamps from Lowes or Home Depot?

The apartment currently is about 68-70 during the summer i run the thermostat at 72-74 any where above that and my 55 starts creeping into the 80s with the halides. I only mentioned the MH idea because i have a spare pendent and bulb, just a chinesium hardware ballast away from having a good enough halide for the kind of stuff I plan in this tank.

If you run a Korallia, make sure you run the nano model, as they come with built-in guards over them. Korallias have been the culprits of several amputated SH tails.
