Need some help, Acros receding

We had some acros not doing so well, and we thought we had red bugs. Still after week 3 looks like things arent getting any better. Its usually the side not in the light that starts to loose tissue, then spreads from there. I dont see any signs of AEFW. Nothings out of line with the water quality. First ist seemed to be mainly smooth skinned acros, but now its even started with a birdnest. This last weekend we noticed a Yellow watchman gobie wasnt yellow but more white. Then this morning out Moorish Idol passed, he was healthy and ate as much as you would feed him. Really at a loss, maybe I have sometype of bacterial infection. Would greatly appreciate any help, has anyone seen or heard of this before.

How much flow do you have in the tank? What lighting do you use? And what are your water parameters?

25 ppm on the Nitrates, everything else 0

Salinity was 1.027

4 Radium 250's about 16 inches off water

Sound like the lighting is covered. I would try to put the lights closer to the water 12". What are your test readings for alk, mag, calcium?

I raised them about 2 months ago, I was going to change my reflectors to the lumenarc. Was thinking it would give me more working room when I need to get into the tank.

Hardness is 10

I would lower the lights back down slowly. Alk needs to be at natural levels of 8.0 -9.0. Some have good results with higher alk, and some report problems. I don't think the alk is your problem though. Unless you changed it too fast.
Maybe some others will chime in to help.

After talking to a few people I have a few things to try. I was told maybe either a bacterial infection, or maybe something in the water that the normal tests dont look for.
So im going to try some anti-biotics, then immediately following use some chemi pure elite, and a polybag.

Are you running carbon at all? I might consider adding that. Maybe a toxin of somekind got in the tank?

Yes I run carbon pretty much all the time, both a carbon and phosphate reactor.

Just helped a friend he was having the same problem as you ,1st I checked his salinity with my refractometer and his sg was almost 1.028 we slowly brought it down to 1.024 and his alk was 10 we brought it down to 7dkh and his electronic temp sensor was reading 79 when I tested it with my glass thermometer it was 82 we brought his temp down to 78 and with in 2 weeks his tank has never looked better.

It's amazing that the combination of the simplest things can make it or break it. This reminds me of Occam's Razor. :thumbsup:
