need some help and advice on this...

ok so I was looking at the instructions on NLS ick shield powder and it says no LR and DSB. Well I have both so if I have to take out the LR and sand why would I not just use cupramine? ugh...I have it and will have to order the NLS ich shield.

Cupramine doesn't work with LR and sand either. The rock and sand will adsorb copper and make it extremely difficult to maintain therapeutic dosing.

Hey chris, yeah what I was saying is if I have to take out my LR and sand for ich shield then I might as well us cupramine because I have it already.

I used rock, a lot of rock in my QT when I dosed CP so maybe that is why I didn't have the success I was hoping for, well couple that with the eBay junk... I know of a few people who have and continue to use CP in their DT and they have rock for sure (would need to double check about sand) also after I was done I took the rock out of the CP dosed QT and put it directly back into my 220g DT with corals and inverts to see how much if any the rock obsorbed... Nothing in my 220g died or seemed effected and this was after dosing ich shield

agree, what if I housed my LR for 21 days in a brute can with movement and just kept my sand bed and used the CP? Sand bed average is 3 inches or so..

It can be done the issue is dosing the proper amount of CP to compensate for the sand... Not sure anyone can tell you how to properly do that. When zoos have used the stuff it's typically put into food they feed and not dosed directly into the tank like we are talking about. Lack of CP being used as much as copper or cupramine is the only downfall to this treatment for lack of real info available about failure or success. Also do you have a lot of worms in your sand? When I used the LR in my QT I had a TON of bristleworms die off which caused a ammonia spike so I had to do a huge water change

understood chris, in the same boat..lol

Dmorty217 no worms that I know of, the saddleback puffer and picasso trigger would make sure of that..lol also the dragon wrasse. My sand bed is moved alot between the dragon wrasse and my maroon clown that wants to re-scape it and make caves. So I guess mostly cosmetic....So wondering if I should just remove all the sand and rock and treat with CP.

If you remove all the sand and rock you either A. Need to let the rock all completely dry out along with the sand or B. Put in a container for 73 days to let the ich life cycle die off from lack of a host. If you take the rock and sand out make sure your HOB filter or canister filter is up to the task with regards to the biofiltering capacity

thanks, ok let me ask your opinion on this, I have to treat the DT tank because I have a 90 gallon reef and space is limited. Would you treat with CP and leave rock and sand, or pull it all out? If I pull it out? I think that glass of Makers Mark is calling my name!!! :uhoh3:

If it were me I would leave the rock and sand in and treat it all that way your not waiting for 73 days for the rock and sand to be ich free. My 220g has ich in it and when I setup my 625g Im putting the rock from the 220g along with some sand in and CPing the crap out of it to kill off the ich and start the cycle. I took everything out of my tank once and it didn't end well for me (thats why I only have 2 fish left from 14)
