We are going to Key Largo in July and I want to take a disposable camera with me while snorkeling with my daughter. I dont want to risk my regular camera. Anybody have any suggestions? It can be 35mm or digital.

You can buy a single-use disposable film camera from Kodak, Fuji, etc. They're good to about 10 feet, and cost $12-15.

This much I know already :p. I am looking for suggestions as to which one is the best from somebody that may have tried them.

Personally I like the Fuji ones. I have always thought that Kodac was the best for shooting pictures of people and Fuji was the best for taking landscape pics.

Olympus, Fuji and Canon also make compact digital cameras that are water proof to 33 feet without any additional housing. Those would take better pictures than any disposable you could get and I think they generally run around $120ish to around $250 depending on which model you get. So for the price of 10 or 15 disposable cameras you get a decent digital camera.

I have a decent digital camera that takes wonderful pictures. I have a 3 month old Panasonic FX28. The problem is that they dont make a waterproof housing for it. I am planning to take a disposable camera or two while snorkeling with the family. I am just wondering which of the current waterproof disposable cameras take the best underwater pictures.

I took this with a fuji disposable while I was in hawaii

Sorry, I didn't get that for your orignal post. Of Fuji and Kodak, I prefer Fuji, their film seems better suited for underwater colors. I took many of these on snorkel trips in the keys and caribbean prior to going digital.

olympus 1030 - is a nice camera. I have one i keep in the boat. Works great takes good pictures underwater - shock proof and waterproof to 33 feet. I have been impressed with it. a much bigger investment but darn nice if you do stuff around the water frequently.

Thanks, it looks like most people prefer the Fuji from what I have been reading on the web.

I don't know if I would trust a plastic bag to keep my camera safe. They say that they use a "waterproof zipper" and velcro to seal the bag. If you manage to poke a little hole in the plastic, chances are you'd never notice before your camera is toast. I know you sort of dismissed the water proof/shock proof digital offerings out there, but I would seriously consider one if you really want to take digital pictures while snorkeling. It would also be much better for beach shots, since you don't have to worry about getting sand into your nice camera, or salt spray or anything else that could mess it up on the beach.
You'd blow entirely too much money on a real housing for your camera, if and when they make one (it'll have to be a third party $$$$, as far as I know panasonic doesn't make housings for their cameras).

They dont make a waterproof housing for my camera unfortunatly. I really dont want to make the investment either since I am planning (2) 2 hour snorkeling trips only. I'll just have to be careful if I go with the camera bag.

Well, good luck with the bag if you use one. Come back and update the thread with some shots and review of the bag. I don't know anyone that's used one yet and I'd like to know how they work out.

Me too. There are a lot of positive reviews on Amazon and I will test it out before I go if I end up buying it. I'll post some pictures either way. We are not leaving until the third week of July so there is plenty of time to get it and test it out in the sink and our pool.

don't get a disposable

don't get a disposable

There is a very good camera that comes with an underwater housing, takes fantastic video and stils,5 mega pixels and $140 and fits in your pocket, even with the housing still on and its the size of a mobile phone out of the housing.

It has a usb that pops out the side and plugs straight in to your computer and transfers as a flash drive.

we take quite a few of the aandtsociety trip pics and video with it.

It is safe to 3 metres and i have used it in 16 metres on tank, works great!

Just make sure you get close enough to the subject when taking a picture. I have used a disposable a few times and the pictures always come out more "zoomed-out: once they are developed than I remeber them being through the view finder
