Need suggestions for a new wrasse

I have a 90g mixed reef. I am unfortunately in the market for a new wrasse. Can anyone suggest one? What I am looking for in the wrasse is for it to be a good worker (eat unwanted stuff), attractive and larger than 3 inches.
Thanks for your help,
Cubman

i have a mystery wrasse and love it but he's a little shy and likes to stay in the rockwork.

if you want one that stays out in the open then i'd get a fairy wrasse or some flashers.

As I understand it, fairy wrasses arent really the best housekeepers. I (and my wife) would love to get a mystery wrasse, but they are a little out of our price range (we are both graduate students living off of loans)(we fund our reef tank through propogating our xenia)

How about an Ornate/Christmas wrasse?
ornate wrasse

I had one for over a year and a half. Never bothered any fish or coral, would just cruise the rocks all day long looking for critters to eat. It was also interesting watching him bury himself in the sand at night to sleep. Unfortunately he jumped the tank. I had moved a pump so they was a little 1 1/2 inch hole in the eggcrate I used to cover the top and found him behind the tank one day.

I'm going to tag along this thread. I'm obviously in the market myself for a new wrasse and although I liked the christmas wrasse, this is a chance to get something different now. I'm actually interested in this one:

Redtail Tamarin

but according to wetweb they're actually difficult to keep.

I think a six line might be a good choice for you, they are inexpensive, hardy, beautiful and active, they stay small, and they do eat many undesirable inverts. The down side is that they will decimate the pod population in a 90 and they sometimes become real bullies and sometimes even killers of passive fish and ornimental shrimp.

Yeah, I actually used to have a six line. Had him for over a year, about 8 months of that spent trying to get him out of the tank. They are great housekeepers, but are just too damn mean.

You posted in LPS too, right?

I'm going to give you the same advice I gave over there. Get one of the smaller halicoeres species.

Melanurus, Iridis, Ornatus, etc. Theyre all gorgeous fish, will eat flatworms, nudis, etc. Check Live aquaria. I got my 4" Melanurus for $27.

I agree with Rich. Try looking at halichoeres wrasses. Relatively peaceful, active and many are beautiful. The only possible drawback would be that when scared and when they sleep they like to bury themselves in the sand. You'll need to have a relatively deep sand bed (2-4 inches) and run the risk of the sand being stirred up onto the corals and rocks.

Hey RIch, when you purchased your fish from LA, how did it come in? WHere you happy with the speciment they sent you?

Unfortunately, a possum is too small. I have a strawberry basslet that can be really mean to fish of equal or lesser size.

i dont mean to piggy back but i just bought a red coris wrasse also know as a klown wrasse he is a most beautiful fish even at his juvy stage in life he is changing by the day and adult colors are simply outstanding for a fish i payed only $22 for i was wondering if he would eat flat worms or if infact cubman might be able to keep one in his tank.

Bird wrasse---they're interesting...oops, no, just googled, and they get a foot long. Cancel that.

Yellow Coris/Banana/Canary: "These burrowing wrasses are hardy, adapt well to aquarium life, are peaceful, take a wide variety of foodstuffs, resistant to parasitic infections, and are compatible with other wrasses. May have an appetite for tubeworms. Provide a fine-grained substrate of at least 3 inches (7.5 cm) in depth." --- www.saltcorner.com

A very nice-looking, very yellow wrasse with good manners.

They only had "medium 2-3 inch" available. The fish that came in was slightly bigger than 4", but still has juvenile colors. He ate right out of the bag, didnt even bury himself. Honestly, I've never gotten a fish home from a store in as good of shape as this fish was.
