I have a five stripe wrasse that has to go. Over the last few months it has gotten increasingly aggressive and has killed many snails in my tank and has gone after my clown the past few days.

What is the best way to catch such fast fish? This guy can zip around my tank at remarkable speeds. I know i'll be able to use food as a motivator, but what kind of trap would be best?

Thanks!

You need a fish trap with a controllable door. These are available from various places and are not difficult to use. Refrain from feeding for one day, then bait the trap with some such as PE Mysis or a small piece of table shrimp. Keep the door open ONLY when the target fish has an opportunity to enter. Usually takes 25 minutes or so, but bring a chair to sit on. Voila ~~~

Trap does work well, that's for sure. In the meantime, I believe these guys are sleep in the sand at night. If you're able to see where it sleeps, you can try to catch it at night, by turning on the lights. I think you have 5 mins tops before they fully awaken.

What I do in my tank is simply use a net with food (PE mysis, which are large, really fatty and smelly!) and allow fish to get used to it. Usually about the 2nd day, all of my fish are in the net, one by one.

Thanks guys. I have no clue where it sleeps so that option is out. I'll try netting it first since that would be the cheaper option. If that fails, I'll see if a local reefer has a trap I can borrow.
