Iv been having some serious problems with the tank... just checked alk and it was upwards of 17dkh!

How can i quickly safely lower the alk?

What kind of problems are you having in particular.

Alk that high will fall on its own pretty quick. The Germans in the 80's used to run their reef tanks higher than that.

I'd ask first........ how did it get that high ? I hope not pH buffers. :(

This link was the beginning of my initial problem

I thought id run a test on my alk to see what it is and was very suprised.

no chemicals have been added to the tank in almost 2 weeks.

My check valve did go on the calcium and i noticed my alk was alittle high so i (though) i switched over to only dose the calcium to catch up with the alk, but i think i was just dosing more alk instead of calcium... when i noticed this i just unhooked both (its only been 2 weeks since this happend) i thought id just do a ton of water changes, which i have.. and see how things were.

Well that would explain the high alkalinity.

I'd leave the tank alone for now. Check calcium........ if it is low, bump it up and wait. Alk will fall.

Go slow my friend.......... everything will be alright. :)

I really don't know.

You'll just have to wait and see. If you start seeing die off, get them out and hope for the best. Inverts are very sensitive.

Do another water change if you have the time. :)
