Need to test a new bulb

I need someone in the Rochester Area who runs 175 MH's to test a bulb for me. It is a 20K and it will not fire on my ballast, so I do not know if it is my ballast that will not run a 20K or if the bulb is defective. And no I do not know the brand of my ballast, it is a dual 175 and is a big sucker in the base of the cabinet and I can't see who it is made by. I usually run 10 or 14k's.
I can bring the bulb to you so it can be tested.
Hope someone can help me.

Is it a Radium? You will need a pulse start ballast to fire them. When you get a chance post the brand of bulb and ballast you have...

Sue - If you have previously and successfully been running the 10K & 14K bulbs, then it should be no problem to run a 20K bulb. The difference, as someone mentioned, may be in the type/brand of bulb, or it may be a defective bulb. If it is the same brand but a different "K" rating, then the bulb might be defective. If it is a different brand, then it may be a compatibility issue. I know none of that really helps; sorry I can't help test it for you. jamie

Can you see any numbers or any other identifying features on the ballast? Can you take a pic of it? You really need to know what type of ballast you have in order to avoid problems in the future. Ditto when purchasing halide lamps.
