Need to vent

So was walking by my nano tank about an hour ago and noticed my coral banded shrimp dead, my mated pair of pearl eye clarkii clowns dead or dying, and my firefish dead. Cause? Yep my heater failed on and the temp was 94! The only thing I'm thankful for is that it wasn't my main display

Ugh, been the done that. What brand of heater was it? There are a few brands known to fail.

Sorry for your loss.

It was an aqueon. It was just my low budget nano. I'm just really ****ed off cuz my mated pair of pearl eye clarkiis were in there and I've only ever seen the one pair. This has made me really rethink getting a controller for my display tank

Truly I would write to them, call them

There have been threads, kent phosphate sponge one for ex, where a little restitution was offered

I doubt they would do much and I don't even have the receipt anymore, but honestly it's not the money. I just am going to have to try to locate another pair of pearl eye clarkiis and they seem to be very hard to find

2nd on the controller for your tank. Can setup so it will email if problem with your tank so you can take action even when your not home

I had a similar experience with a brand new Marineland heater. The Marineland customer disservice representative asked me to ship the heater to them(at my own expense) even though the heater wasn't worth the cost of shipping. She didn't seem to understand why this seemed unreasonable to me and failed to agree to any other remedy, consequently I no longer purchase Marineland products.

I just feel bad, this nano had my girlfriends favorite fish in it which was the only reason we had it running. Know shes all upset and just wants to tear down the tank and stick with the main display. I cant really blame her.

I haven't had a heater fail on me yet but do replace them once every 2-3 years just so this doesn't happen. I do have an Apex so it should notify me anyways but I don't want to take a chance of one failing on me.

After an issue I had with a heater, I'll never run a tank without some type of heater fail safe. I read a comment someone made regarding the thousands of dollars we spend on our tank only to trust it all to a $20 heater.

I have an Apex on my DT, but I've seen cheaper controllers built just for heaters.

Feel your pain.. I just had a heater go bad in my QT. Lost a Flame Hawk. Temp was 92 degrees :-( have a controller on the DT but cant justify the cost of another temp sensor just for the QT (although if it happens again it may be worth the $s)
