I just changed 10 gallons of water on my 56gallon tank. Problem is it was fresh water. Does anyone have any made water I could get. the tank is cloudy and corals are receding . HELP

Damn the critter. I specifically asked for salt water but recieved fresh. I added 1and 1/2 cups of salt mix and put back around 5 gallons I still had in bucket from change. But the water looks like soup and I don't know what to do.

ph 8.2
salinity 1.19
calcium 400+
alkalinty test just says is inline

HELP

I have no water made up. You should call critters first thing in the morning to tell them what happened. They're usually pretty good about giving you the right stuff. Dunno what happened with your water situation. Hopefully you got enough water to take care of the issue.

I am in MT juliet and have 32 gallons ready to go. Been mixing for days. You have to come and get it (bring containers)

I am still freaked out. Parameters seem ok but water looks cloudy. Mikey I bought 10 gallons of what I thought was saltwater from the critter. After removing 5 gallons i emptied in the street. Then another 5 gallons out but didnt dump it. It wasn't till i was about finished pouring the second 5 gallon jug in when I noticed the tank was cloudy on the top. Feel so stupid for not checking prehand, but I never have in the past and never had a problem. So i took 5 gallons out and replaced with water I still had from change that came out tank prior. Then added half recommended amount of salt to tank to hopefully compensate for remaining amout of freshwater that was added to the tank. Tank looked cloudy, most corals closed up some but not completely so I turned the lights out. All the fish seemed ok. So what u guys think?, will it be ok till morning? If so how much you think I should change out then?

Your parameters seem ok, yes, but you must remember its going to be that HUGE swing in salinity that happened all at once that is going to freak your corals out and possibly kill them. :)

In reefing, stability is king. You want parameters to be good, but they need to remain consistent for success. Ask me how I know... its kind of inverted. ;) :D

Having said this, I think leaving it alone would probably be your best bet. The more you change, the more stressed your corals and fish are going to be. 1.019 is not too bad.

Also, something to keep in mind is that some people do full tests on their water before they change it. Quite honestly, I'm not that diligent, but I would definitely be at LEAST checking to see that the salinity of the water you're putting in is close to what the tank is at already. Or, as this case would have been, to see if it has ANY salt in it at all! :)

HTH!

I hope things are ok! If your tank was well established, sometimes it can be forgiving! I came home one day with water pumped all over my floor so I had to make water ASAP and just dumped them all in there and everything made it just fine. I did another water change the day afterward just to be safe. You should test your salinity a few more times just to be sure once everything mixes in. Good Luck!

i always ask the guys at the AC what the salinity in their premade SW is before i get it...they usually know off the top of their head. it usally is a bit under what i run my tank at so i have to test it to check how much to add. sorry about your tank but good lesson for others to read!

Just changed 10 gallons out. Prior to the change salinity was 1.021. The water for the change was at 1.022. My calcium was very low at around 250, so i buffed for that.
