I always taste the water before it goes in the tank. You can't be too sure.

Let me explain this right. If the salinity of the water you get is 1.022 and your existing salinity is 1.022 and you want it higher. Since you change out 10 g at a time. So don't top off fresh water and take out 9 g of tank water and put in 10g saltwater during water change. Or on a daily basis instead top off with fresh water, you top off with saltwater until you get to desired level.

It was the appropriate response. Take a gallon of water out, mix 1 gallon of water with double the salt as you would normally use for a gallon, mix well, and add 1/2. Let the tank settle for 30 minutes and test salinity. If it needs more, add more of the concentrated water.
More salt helps.

Adding more salt - what insight? I would take it as the obvious solution to a problem with low salinity. If someone has to freaking spell it out to you, I pity your fish.
Low salinity + more salt = proper salinity level. Common sense. Then again, as I believe Rhett's signature so aptly puts it ... common sense is not so common.

I don't really get it, why such small amount of evaporation??? I top off on a daily basis on my 55g. I top off about anywhere from half a gallon to a full gallon per day. On my 90 bowfront I have a top off system and it goes through 5 gallons of water in about 3 days. Are you covering the tank?? I used to buy water from Critter on a weekly basis when I first started this hobby. But I still had to do top off on a daily basis. IF you have a top on your tank, I would highly suggest in removing the top, what I mean is like a glass top cover. Your blocking oxygenation! You really need to bring up your salinity level if you really want to success in doing reef. You've seen how my stuffs grown like crazy, it didn't come easy. Took A LOT of time and study. Most of us here have been doing it for a long period of time and we do give pretty good advise on here. Something you should listen to seriously!
