I'm on the fence about which anemone I want, or if I want one at all. I like RBTAs but I don't want it to wander my tank and sting my coral. I was also thinking of a maxi mini but wasn't sure if any clowns would take to it.

As for clowns, I want something different. Whether it's an uncommon morph or uncommon species. Picassos seem to be more and more common as time goes. Nowadays, I don't see too many Onyx clowns and have been thinking of that. Also, my LFS has Snow Onyx that are nice, just a bit out of budget for me.

120 gallon tank with 2x150w MH and the only other fish as of right now are a purple firefish and a lawnmower blenny. I want to keep smaller fish in my tank.

^^LOL, my guess would be kinda, yeah, especially when you see the same question posted several times right on the front page.

I have a mini maxi that has wandered a LOT... Started off in the front sand. Then back wall now up top sharing a rock with my huge gbta.... The Maxi tried to take the rock over but naturally the gbta showed him who is boss...

So just an FYI, they will wander too..... Now that he has found the spot, not moving and looking really cool in the spot it chose..

As far as I know, the mini-maxis don't host any clowns, and even though BTAs aren't a natural host for percs, my LFS has a RBTA hosting a pair of onyx percs and they look amazing together. I'm sure you have seen lists of clowns/nems that will pair, so when you do decide on what you want, double check to make sure they are compatible.

Most clowns will host in a BTA if their preferred variety isn't available. I'd say go for the BTA and if that doesn't work try to find a ritteri somewhere. Or a sebae. Your lighting looks above adequate.

Todd, I have noticed some of your other posts in the anemone section. Does it ever get boring asking the same questions over and over? ;)

Once in a while, to be honest. :headwalls: However, my recent (( somewhat )) break/slow down of posting, during my move helped a lot.

Todd,

Can loki32687 put a Green/Red/Orange BTA in a 12 gal nano with PC lighting?
Can he also keep a sps forest and a pair of full-size GSM in that tank too?
Would you feed the anemone full filets of salmon?

:deadhorse:

Sorry, I just had to add some humor.

Loki,

I would opt for the BTA anemone if I were you. They are fairly hardy for an anemone (if not the hardiest in the hosting varieties). As long as you feed minimally some minced shrimp/fish(or mysis), give adequate lighting (NO CFL! Let the bashing begin on that comment), proper flow, good rocky structures for securing their foot and consistent water chemistry you will be fine. I have found though that split BTAs' seem to do much better if you slack some on maintenance. I am in no way suggesting that is ok, but I have gained an understnading with a GBTA in a nano when he/she is happy or PO'ed at me by the overall 'look'. I can adjust quickly when I see things going south.

As for wandering, your screwed. They will go where they want when they want. That drove me to a seperate BTA/maxi-mini only tank. My GSM pair doesn't even recognize my various maxis' in my lagoon. The only positive with the maxi-mini carpet's is they are truly nuclear blast-proof and mine are growing under 6500K CFL bulbs for the lagoon. The growth difference between the CFL and MH (in BTA DT) are minimal at best.

So, buy the anemone if your truly set on clowns that are hosted. I prefer cloned anemones and RBTA and GBTA are easy to come by. Once you get one, you may have 3+ in a couple years time.

I'll let someone else cut in about clowns, as I kind of have become bored with everything available and have set my eyes on some species that have been in my bucket list for some time. Onyx are definitely in my top 5 favs. I prefer a little more spunk in a fish so my GSM and Tomato pairs are up my alley. You could go for an Allard's or Great Barrier Reef clown. If your going to just enjoy the fish, buy what you like. If your going to breed, choose wisely or you'll be selling offspring at a couple bucks a pc (my experience).

Hope the rambling helped....:fish1:

In time, you got a deal. :) As soon as I make the plunge on a few lights for all my tanks I will be going anemone nuts.. I will PM you. Trying to figure out the very cheapest possible option to keep an anemone healthy.
