I made a spur of the moment buy at the LFS today. It looked like a bubble tip to me, the tips were bubbled like the others they had. this one had a pink tint to it and it interested me. I said it looked bleached pretty bad but i said i would still by it at a deal. my boyfriend volunteers at our LFS (can you say discount?! lol) and one of the workers said it looked so bleached we could just have it, another said her first guess is that its an lta and it cost $40. needless to say we got it for free but once we go it home and in the tank (accilmated and all) i put it in and it was almost solid white, no pink. it kind of looked like a long tip anemone to me but i could have sworn that it was a bubble tip (its bubbled out right now). i know my story is kinda scattered but all and all could you just let me know what type it is? il post water params if needed

thanks, lauren.

sorry for such a big picture! i should have resized! it moved from the rock i placed it on to the sand. im definitely starting to think LTA. what should i do?

Turn it sideways. If there are rows of bumps up near the tentacles on the underside, or the the foot is red, it's LTA. Either way, Occelaris can be hosted by it.

i checked for the row of bumps and dont think i saw them. and the foot is completely white. I'll try to get better/more pictures. the woman who said it was $40 said it was the healthiest anemone they had and it looks really bleached. thank you again!

the pink seems to be slightly coming back also

thats what it looks like from the back. sorry its a bowfront and its in a corner so pictures are hard.
and sorry for picture size again i tried resizing.

greeeaaatt! now im completely lost! occelaris will have no interest? and it looks bleached to me, is it? thanks for the help guys, i know i.d. questions must get tiring.

and is there anything i can do to help it, or give it the type of space/area it needs?

Ocellaris are not naturally hosted by that species. On occasion, in aquariums, ocellaris will pair up with sebaes. It is bleached. Good quality lighting, good quality water (low nitrates, proper temp 78-82F, occasional small feedings of mysis, fresh shrimp, etc. and time will hopefully get it to color up. I have a rescue crispa that is going on a year. It was originally bleached like yours. I found that permanent attachment only happened when I put it in the liverock. Some report attachment in the sand. Mine would dig into the sand, but in a day or two let go and float around. Finally, it attached to a hole in the liverock, settled in, and now it's like Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors. Sitting there wanting to be fed all the time ; ) In case yours does let go and float around, make sure your powerhead intakes are covered with screen or sponge.

Thank you so much! I started it on a flat rock on the ground and it wedged itself into that corner on the sand. All powerheads have sponge around them so no problem with that if he goes a floatin'. How soon should I start feeding? I can't see its mouth either btw so im not sure where to feed lol. And I know he's bleached but does he look like he won't be saved and it would be better to take him back or do you think I could nurse him back?

My tank is almost 6 months
pH 8.2
Nitrates 0
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Phosphate .25 (not sure if that's high?)
Calcium 420
dKH 12
Salinity 1.024
Temp 79degrees

I would start feeding after it stays attached in the same place a couple of days. The anemone's mouth is in the center of the tentacles. A small (size of a small pea) piece of fresh shrimp, from the seafood dept., would be a good first food. Put the food near the middle of the tentacles and see if the anemone takes it to its mouth. Sometimes it takes a few days to get them to eat again after all they have been through. Sometimes they aren't too sticky at first either. As they get healthier, they get stickier. It can take a few minutes for the anemone to eat. If it lets go of the food, remove the shrimp and try again in a few hours or tomorrow.

You have a chance to nurse it back. It's touch and go. your parameters are good. ideal specific gravity is 1.026ish, but no big deal. You can slowly increase it at some point, but it's not bad at 1.024. If your lfs is like most, it has a much better chance with you than if you return it to the store. A little phosphate isn't a big deal. More of an issue for algae growth.

When I put her in, I didn't have gloves I did it very gently, I got her floating in the bag and slowly put my hand under her foot. She didn't sting me and actually stuck to my hand in a couple spots lol. I have mysis and frozen krill is that okay? Or should I go with fresh? I think shell have a better chance in my tank as well so I think im going to hold on to her. Thanks so much everyone!

Just one more question! What lighting specifications do sebae anemones prefer? And my salinity is usually 1.025 but its time for a water change!

Sebaes need strong lighting, t-5s are good, that's what I have. Metal halide would be fine, LEDs, even in shallow tanks power compacts. What type of lighting do you have?

ok i so was looking at the nem with the lights out (it is beautiful, expanded completely, you can even kinda see tips on them) i took a picture because i saw the bumps under the tentacles so i think it might be a LTA check it out

and for lighting I have 2 dual solarmax T5HO 48w each with 4 LEDs in each fixture.
I actually ordered my ATI par 38 bulbs today so I will be upgrading very soon.

sorry for the bad picture quality its from my phone. but there are small bumps all under the tentacles and its open twice the size of the first picture i posted
