Nem I'd ?

So to day impulse bought a nem. I had never seen one like this sooooo now it's in my tank. I know not a good idea,as far as I know it a cold water species. Anyways any idea what is.I plan on treating it like any other long tentacle nem. I'm hoping it doesn't need special care because I'm running out of tanks :worried:

Yep, the red foot makes be believe it's long tentacle also. It looks like it may be somewhat bleached.

Also, I read a while ago that when nems have blue in their tentacles that they are usually dyed.

I will look into them. I have a clown in the same tank, any chance this Nem can host the clown?

Dyed??? WHAT!!!!!! I never heard of that if that is the case I will be vary ------- well I'll have a few words with the seller.

I have a huge long tentacle anomone and it hosts a mated pair of ocellaris clown fish. It really depends on the clowns if they go to it.

Actually, your anemone is probably not dyed. I just found the old thread I was referring to and they were talking about bubble tip anomones. I believe your blue color for LTA anomones is legit. Sorry didn't mean to scare ya.

Well here it is in the tank it's opened up quite a bit. Still not positive what kind it is. M DoReensis seems likely with what I could see

It looks like a bleached out LTA, and that color you see is just faded color of what it was, it could have a darker purple color when it regains health.
Small feedings of mysis 2-3x a week will help.
It should be placed in sand bed rather than on rockwork.
It is not a cold water species, it is a host nem and your clowns should take to it, how soon depends on if a natural match or not.

In addition to what daveocean said LTA's need a deep sandbed. It would be good if you piled up the sand about 3-4 inches close to the rocks and then dig out a hole in the sand and place the Nem's foot in that hole and push the sand all around the foot.

Do not over feed during the process of getting it's color back. Also Mysis are easier for them to digest than other shrimp like what we eat unless you peal the shell off. But no mater what you feed do not give it anymore than something the size of a pencil eraser.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I did place it in the rock work. And it's taken hold deep in it. I placed it near the top to get good light. In hopes to help it along. This is the problem when you purchase something you know nothing about. I do have experience with nem's just not extensive experience. The reference to the clod water was tongue in cheek. Hopefully when it's feeling better it Will move to the sand bed on it's own. Any more thoughts on it's species not that I think that M Doreensis is off base. Or its not bleached, just that it looks so odd to me.you should see it in blue light it's absolutely stunning. I kinda hope it does not change. Thanks again all for your input . As always I can rely on you all to rescue me

LTA usually stay low so I would say they are usually at the medium light/PAR level area and medium flow, best is at sand bed next to a rock ledge where they can pull in or out of light as needed, but I'd leave it alone right now and let it settle and do it's own thing.
It will change to a darker color as it regains health.

I was able to get this nam moved to the sand bed. I buried it's food in the sand near the rock work. This morning it is out of the sand and looks stressed. I feel like I should return it to the rock work above it seemed to be doing better there.for now I'll leave it be

Be very careful putting in within reach of other things in your tank. Their tentacle will sting. Just saying because I saw in your pic that it looks very close to what looks like xenia. I made this mistake in the past.

I hear ya, the pic's a little deceiving .there is lot's of space between them. All though if they did get hit I wouldn't cry about it lol. Unless it made them grow lol. Any suggestions on what I should do with this nem? It looks worse now than it did in the last pic. When it was in the rock work it opened up fully and was turning perple. It was looking really good. I know now it should not be up there. Not sure what would be the best for it .thinking I should rebury it or move it to the rocks?

It may have just gotten to stressed out. If i was you i'd leave it to settle down for a while and see what happens. Just make sure it is close enough to a place it can attach with so that it feels secure. I have a long tentacled anenome, originally it was on the substrate and had wedged itself into a crevice between 2 rocks. Then one day about a month later it decided to take a hike up onto the rock. Now its back down on the substrate and has attached between the substate and the rock. PS I'm no expert like some of the people on here but this was my experience. When I left it alone it settled down, just took a few days to recover.

Long tentacle anomone's will be much happier in the sand next to a rock. If it doesn't look happy where it's at, adjust your power head location and flow if you can. Moving anomone's regularly stresses them out and you end up with a unhappy anomone that ends up dying. Leave it be...don't touch it. If it doesn't open up the way you want it to, let it find its ideal location. If you keep messing with it, it will die!

Noted! And understood, letting it roll around on the bottom of the tank doesn't seem like the best option ether.I can't help feeling it might need soom existences. As of now I have let it be in hopes it will take hold. I also have temporarily reduced the flow to keep it from blowing around.

I understand what your saying... OK give it some help...hopefully you have at least 3 inches of sand. If you don't, push a large portion around a rock to build the sand up. Dig a small hole and place the anemone's foot in it. Maybe put a rock in front of it to help it feel comfortable and secure. If the flow is right, the light is right it will attach. Once it's attached, move the front rock and you hopefully have a nice looking LTA in a location you and the anemone like. Once it gets happy and comfortable, you can try feeding it small meaty foods like frozen chopped shrimp once a week. Good luck.
