i got this little guy acclimated and in the tank the other night. what a beautiful fish and a great personality to add to it.

Gorgeous. Be careful no other fish intimidates him as he will hide and have problems. He also is a prolific
jumper so make sure your tank is covered (egg crate will not work) Enjoy!!

Beautiful, and I agree, major jumpers, be careful.
I have a birdnet screen w/ 1/4" mesh and my pair still managed to jump out first week.

Get some screen on the tank.... else you will loose this lovely fish. I put them up there with Flame Wrasses, Tilefish and Mysteries. It's really sad to discover their little dried up bodies months or years later.

i've got a bird netting homemade screen but i think the holes are to big for it. not sure what else i can put on there without blocking alot of light.

A few years back I added 3 to my tank, left the hood off and ran out to pick up a pizza. I came home a half hour later to all three dead on the floor. Quickest money I've lost on the tank to date.

My advice is to get what you can on just for chance of deflection, until you get a better one, and I wouldn't be slow about it.
Things like timers and bumps will startle them easy.
I rushed a friend for my cover before I got mine just for them, and they STILL BOTH got out!LOL...ugh
Not a cheap jerky treat for the neighbors cat...

I realize I am probably like the lemon in the group of apples - but if you establish the fish first and set up a bolt-hole for the fish in the tank, it might be possible with an open-top.

My firefish (open canopy) lives in a "pvc/barnacle set up" originally established for my two jawfish. All 3 live in my 120 (open top) for the past 12 months. The firefish methodically goes in and out of it's bolt hole every day at pretty much the exact same times before lights on/off and always jumps in there when I have to do maintenance.

Again - order is important in my opinion and I do not have any "aggressive" fish.
