Nemo Babies - Kat's 90g

If it's a somewhat small rock, yeah, you can. Just put it in the fry tank and black that out. If they are wanting to hatch, they will. Check with a small flashlight in an hour or so if they've hatched.

I'd put an airline in the corner of the tank also. Get a little flow in the tank, just not a lot.

will the nem be okay in that environment until they hatch?

and just the tubing or an air stone...i have one.

The nem would be fine for a couple hours. I would put the airline near the anemone, but not hitting it. Don't use an air stone, just the tubing is fine. Make sure you've got a heater in there to keep it warm, and put the airline tubing under it.

gotcha, commander....question about rotifers. from coke bottle to 10gal tank...should be 1.019 water...do i just dump them in there?

update...rock removed...going to basement. clowns are going bonkers in the tank. hope this happens quick. and i need a smoke. lol.

I'd put the 2l of rotifers in their tank. Drip in 1.019 water if you can. If not, dump a few cups in every 10 minutes or so. You can add the new water fairly quickly (like an hour), you just don't want to do it all at once.

okay. i understand that...but if I want to keep the rotifers breeding..i have a tank for that...how much of the 2l bottle goes into that tank and at what salinity? 1.019? should the fry tank also be 1.019?

rock and eggs in total darkness in basement.

Don't do anything with them yet. Make sure the fry hatch first. Then you'll want to add some rotifers to the fry tank. Add the rest of the rotifers to their own tank and add 1.019 water as needed.

drum roll please....................THEY ARE HATCHING!!!!!! right now...roughly 20-30 swimming...okay...jerking...around when i shined a flashlight indirectly across the top...and yes..they swam right to the light. Rotifers added.

okay on rotifer dosing and breeding...think i got this. we'll find out soon enough!

Congrats! Make sure to get a rotiver sieve asap. You don't want to be adding too much rotifer water in with the fry. You could probably screen them through a coffee filter. It will be a bit slow, but it will work.

check on coffee filter...that's what I did!!!!!!! i think i have some silk fabric in my studio somewhere...might try that. But yes, coffee filter worked..slowly...but i can wait it out to do this right.

yeah, the coffee filter is ridiculously slow in filtering. I have had to do it before. Make sure to take lots of pics.

thanks! however...question, well...observation...when I left for the theater...there were hundreds swimming around. Fed them. That was at 530pm. Just got home...went and looked in the tank...and i don't see them anymore...but there is no sign of them on the tank bottom either...would the nem have eaten them????? or are they hiding?

The nem could have eaten some of them. There is no way it ate them all though. Did you tint the fry tank water with phyto?

yes....just removed the rock with the nem and put it back into the 90g. Clownfish were VERY happy to see their home again.

headed back down to the basement to see what's up now that rock is gone.

i think i can safely say that this first attempt has been unsuccessful. With the rock gone, i was able to look around the tank...and I do not see any fry. And there are no bodies anywhere either. Hindsight being 20/20, i believe that I should have removed the rock with the nem as soon as the eggs hatched. Hopefully the next time this happens, I won't need to be at the theater....which should be shortly by the looks of the Momma and Pappa in the 90g right now......

If anything else comes up...like maybe my eyesight or new babies...I'll return to this thread. Not giving up!

It may be for the better. This will give you a chance to get your rotifers and phyto going strong. Also, it will give you a chance to get a rotifer sieve.

I've been patiently waiting for eggs for ever it seems. I have read different forms of this thread multiple times and should be an expert on the subject by now. For some reason they never get old though. Breeding threads are always a lot of fun to read. Nirvana fan, thanks for sharing all the great info and pics. Superkat, sorry about babies and good luck with the next ones. Cant wait to read about it.
