Nems How Many ?

MANTISMAN
G'day

Just curious as I am a total Nem Noob...

How many types of Nems can you have in 1 tank ?

Like BTA/Carpet/Mini Maxi/ etc ?

(I don't like carpet cause they move a lot)...

Just thinking about doing a Nem only tank but not sure if I can have what I want that being as many different nems as possible...

The more nems the greater chance of war between them, I keep carpets and rbta in the same tank and they stay apart but have to be careful, could create a toxic soup

Depends on what you want to keep and size of the tank. I have bta's, Ritteri, and Haddoni together. Several people keep Gigs and Haddoni together. Long tentacles and bta's will usually work. I can't keep Malu or Crispa alive long enough to find out as I cannot get a healthy one around here. Gigs and Ritteri usually dosent work too well from what I've read so I've never tried it. Hope that helped in some way. and Ive never heard of maxi minis compeating with anything. Carpets once settled don't usually move in less something in the tank changes(lighting, flow) Bta's move quite often.

I currently have 7 nems in my tank right now. 4 bta, 1 Ritteri and a Haddoni. And plan to add another haddoni soon. I was afraid when I added the haddoni my Ritteri would get mad but several people said they go fine and in over a month ive say no problems. So it can be done you just have to watch what you mix.

I'm not sure what I want being a total 'Nem Noob' but was thinking about "giving" them and all "their" really awesome hosting creatures a tank to themselves (900mmLx300mmWx350mmT - 88L / 23Gal.

If your tank is only 23 gallons you can rule out carpets(Gigantea and Haddoni) and Ritteri as they will quickly out grow a tank that size. And I'm not too sure Malu or Crispa would fit for long. And one lta would fill it up. I would do bta's and Mini-maxi's. That would make a cool looking tank as those two species come in all kinds of colors.

Thanks for the advice :D

I am just worried about Nems eating each other more then anything (I can prevent the powerhead blender problem (tunze powerhead fancy rock covers).

They won't eat each other per say. What they do is release a toxin that will try to kill the other one to get it out of its space. Which in turn causes the other to do the same thing. this goes on till one or both die and nukes your tank. Running carbon helps a lot to take the toxins out. The three you mentioned in your other thread should all go together fine as long as they arnt touching.

I only mentioned 2 in the other thread o.O

I figured that nems shouldn't touch :X but am just considering my options...

Would it be simply safer to go with Nems that are of the same family like just all Mini Maxi or just all BTA ?

Or same problem :X...

It would be easy for me to make a good looking divider that could separate my tank into 2 equal halves and keep the nems from each other (no flow holes, water flows over).

Of the Mini-Maxi the only other nem that I really love is the Hellfire :D we get a few down under with stunning colors!

The other idea I had was to split the tank as I said and have 1 hellfire in 1 half and as many Mini-Maxi in the other half that I could...

?

I'm confused too much bouncing back and forth between threads. I'm getting whiplash lol. You said one long tentacle, the mini maxi's and a bubbly type(I was assuming you were talking bta's here). I've never heard good things about hellfire nems lol we don't get many here in the states. And the ones that do get them usually end up with horror stories about stings lol. I know nothing of their care or compadibility with other nems. If you did just one species you could put as many as you wanted that would fit and they would'nt bother each other.

Yea Ritteri and Haddoni stings are bad enough. I'll pass on that lol. I'll have to look into the shrimp. Ive not heard of them before.

Wow! What tank size and setup do you run? How long? Would love to see pics. Thanks in advance for sharing.

Maybe you should keep to one thread. There are very similar questions going on in both.

With a 23 gallon tank, you should really stick to only one species of anemone, and stay with small species.

"Carpets" do not all walk. In-fact, I hate that we have given such a blanket term to species with extremely different care and conditions. The requirements needed for a haddoni are almost polar opposite from, say, a Mertens. This is a bit of a moot point, however, as these species are too big for your tank.

I have three rock flowers, one bubble tip, and one mini max in my tank. I plan on adding several more rock flowers. I'm becoming addicted to nems
