The tank has been up and running for about a month and a half and I think that I have neon green Coraline Algae growing on my live rocks. Is this odd? I have never seen it before.

I've got a ton of it. It even grow on my glass. I don't know where I imported it from. They say that you need coraline in your tank to start w/ in order for it to spread, but I didn't see any on the live rock I purchased. I've asked the same question and have never seen a real knowledgable responce. I'll be tagging along to see if yours has a different result.

I take it you know the difference between coraline and regular algae. The green I have doesn't plate like regular coraline, but rather shows up in clusters of tiny green dots. It covers the top of the majority of my live rock. It doesn't peal off easily, or look thick on any of the surfaces, does it? If so, barbra is probrably correct.

From what I have read, and what I've seen in my tank, the green coraline eventually changes to the purple/pink kind. No one seemed sure as to whether it was the algae itself that changed color, or whether the purple type outcompetes the green type.

It looks like what happened in my tank, I had a lot of lime green coraline, and it's slowly changing to a purple color.

i got lots, it grows pretty fast, but not nearly as fast as the dark purple stuff. some it starting to glow on my glass. only dark purple, light green, dark green, and whiteish have made it to the glass. the fire truck red that grows in a few places is my favorite, but it seems to grow pretty slow..

Mine went from green to puple in a few months. it still grows but is less dominant over time, but grows before pink/purple.

My marshall islands rubbles are all green, my kaelini are green all over the top and the bottoms are covered with tons of dark red spots that are starting to melt into a more mellowed out red/purple, my totoka has maintained it's brown color - probably it's staining from coralline that had all died from before I got it - but it has really been a magnet for the dark red/purple buds that came from the kaelini and I'm guessing it's because it's so sharp and textured, my fiji has gone through a few phases of colors but mostly lost it's colors and turned mostly brown with time, my piece of slab has some purple and green a touch of red and lots of white, and my piece of great barrier has every color on earth but blue and yellow, but it's starting to bleach some on the corner that's exposed to the light.
