Neon yellow plating montipora?

I don't see any yellow caps!

Gary, I don't doubt that in your tank the corals you have are yellow; however they are not caps. I don't doubt there's yellow encrusting sps I've seen several species that are yellow with colored polyps like I stated in an earlier post. Just no yellow cap.

diveshark, do you run zeovit or something because all your corals in that pic look so pale

No, no zeovit, the color is a result of some alk issues and inproper white balance settings in the camera. There is a blah tan cap that butts up next to the yellow, been trying to kill it for a while, won't die.

Ok, Here's the monti under 10K lights and that it. The pic is way darker than real life. This think glows like crazy under actinic only.

I gotta ask why the subrstate color is way off?

I too have yet to see a healthy growing true yellow Monti Cap.

Theres no such thing, you might get a washed out green which on a good day looks a tad yellow but there is no such thing as a yellow monti cap

I had a really bright Yellow Montipora Capricornis with white polyps. Is this what you're looking for:

And yes, even though the substrate is reflecting the halides it really was that bright

Yeah, that frag grew into a very nice 6x6 colony but it didn't survive my tank upgrade about a year ago. Not sure why, everything else made it.

lol I didnt know yellow cap was this rare... I was offered a yellow cap when I got my tank up, but chose a orange cap instead since yellow wasn't my favorite color =(

Well, if anyone finds one like the one in my pic I'd be glad to buy a frag. Seriously, it was one of my favs and the lfs is no longer in business.

We have one! Looks like someone had one at one time. Hopefully there's some other out there.

so during a water change i took another pic of my cap, it is above the water level with the aquarium lights out of the way; so properly setting white balance was much easier. this pic should more accurately represent what coral looks like.

sure i can send you one.
i'm on the road for work for the next couple of days, but can send one out once i'm back at home.

2 of my local LFS have bright yellow plating monti's. One guy does frags and the other has a nice colony thats got a few shelves and is super bright yellow with purple polyps. I BELIEVE that the latter is a Tyree but not 100 %. Theyre rare corals but i fimd it crazy someone would look for ten years without seeing one......... Unless u live in santa barbara, pakistan lol........ and as far as the pic.....not a monti.....
