Neptune Apex Should I go for it?

Hi everybody,

I know that this topic has been talked a lot over the years, but I am thinking to add a Neptune Apex to my setup but I have a lot of questions about it.

Most of the questions are related to if it's truly worth the investment an also the reliability of this equipment, the measurements are reliable and accurate? the equipment will last at least a few years working without problems?

I know, typical questions, but I would appreciate if some of you that have the Apex, share with me your opinions either good and bad. On the internet, I found very different opinions related to it and am a bit confused.

Thanks for your replies in advance.
Happy Reefing!

I'll never go back to running a system without a controller. There's Apex and Profilux all with their own quirks and problems. Nothing is perfect. I have a newer version of the Apex controller and the few issues I've had I've contacted support and they've helped me every time. I wish they were plug and play 100% but that would be too easy [emoji1]. Not even the fish behave as they should or corals. There's a learning curve for everything, I love my controller.

I wish I would have gotten Apex. I was gifted a ReefAngel and just kept adding to it.
The interface on Apex is just better and it works out the box with more equipment.

With ReefAngel it's hit or miss when it comes to getting working parts. Has been for me at least.
They are ok with RMA's but it takes forever.

Anyway that's just me. Wish I went with Apex but I'm too far in with ReefAngel to start over.

I would not run a tank without a controller. As already stated they all have their positives and negatives. Choose the one that will best fit your needs in your price range. Don't rely completely on one. Make sure if for some reason the controller quits the tank will survive until you can get to it to fix the problem. This may be as simple as having flow pumps such as Vortech's that are not controlled by the controller. This will allow you a few hours to fix any issues before the tank goes critical.

Hi,

Thank you for all your responses, it is really helpful to me hearing about people that have Apex or is thinking to buy one. After a lot of research and asking myself a lot of questions I think that I will go for it because I travel a lot for work and I would like to have a bit more of safety and control to my tank. Also in the future, I will invest in modules for some automation like feeding for example.

Thanks again for your time.

Neptune Apex Should I go for it?

When I travel to Costa Rica there's nothing better than to be able to check on the tank laying by the pool [emoji1][emoji106]
My son runs the calcium and alkalinity tests and I'm able to adjust the Dosers as necessary.

I would view a controller as a nice-to-have rather than a must-have. Certainly get things like lighting and flow right before buying something like an apex. I do have an apex, along with a crazy number of modules, and find it useful as a monitoring/alerting device. I’d be careful about using it to control too many things; and where you do, make sure to have redundant switches/probes. More than half of the alerts I get end up being switch malfunctions.
