Reef Bass

I have a new favorite reef store in the Bay Area: Neptune Aquatics in San Jose. They are basically at the intersection of 101 and 880.
Grant was not exaggerating when he said the place was awesome.
I very much enjoyed my visit there Sunday. Another name for the place could be Coral Candy Land! Wow. So many tanks loaded with hundreds of various frags at different price points, many of which were very reasonable! The health and quality of the frags were very good.
Their display tanks are stunning. Colonies, not frags. Beautiful fish and gorgeous corals living in harmony. I saw the largest Red Dragon colony I’ve ever seen. No die back and it was showing good polyp extension even in the middle of the day.
The tanks are clean and well lit. They were wiping down all the tank fronts when we arrived shortly after they opened on Sunday.
The staff was friendly and very helpful. Robert, the owner, took time to speak with Grant and I despite our not being his only customers. He was gracious and knowledgeable. He assigned us a “personal shopper” who helped pull and bag frags as we selected corals for the club raffle.
We got a good range of items: colorful zoas (with more than one polyp per plug!), acans, chalices, favia, candy cane, montipora and of course acros in different shapes and colors.
I picked up a couple things for myself too, including a beautiful octospawn (Euphyllia yaeyamaensis), a very colorful rainbow monti and a couple acros which are showing good polyp extension considering they changed environments and were dipped (no pests detected).
Do yourself a favor and visit the store. You won’t be disappointed. And while you are there, tell them you are from the Wine Country Reefers. We want to cultivate a mutually beneficial relationship with them.
