Never saw Euphyllia eating...

Hi. I have tourch coral and hammer one. They open every they and can easily see the mouth of every head. I tried to direct feed them several times when they are open but they won't response. I chop dried shrimp plate for different size every time but the just ignore it.
What should feed it with and when? How do I recognize he wants food ?
I have an acan that I feed when I can see the tentacles and he excepts the dried shrimps happily.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

They don't need to be fed food, lighting and good water is all they do need. Mine tends to catch leftover particles that float around and fall into it.

Just wondering if there is someone that feeds this coral directly on a regular basis. I'll be happy for some input.
Thanx.

I target feed my euphyllia thawed brine shrimp with the pumps off when lights are out. Frogspawn, hammer, torch all eat brine shrimp. Every tank is different, but all my lps will eat brine shrimp.

+1
They don't need to be fed. I have a few differnt euphyllias. Some take food anytime and some just drop it but they all look great.

I have had Euphyllias for years! never fed them, not even once. Every single piece do well, I have a branching hammer grew from 3 heads to 27 heads without feeding it even once in 3 years. But I do target feed all the other corals twice a week with finely choped raw shrimp meat.
Then, I was told by vivid aquariums that Dave actually target feed their Aussie Golden Torch, and it grew faster. So I went home and tried on my Aussie Golden Torch and my Blood Red Wall Hammer, both took the food and ate it to my surprise. Now I feed all my Euphyllias at least once a week, and they do grow much faster!!! and open even more (aka much more aggressive with their tectacles) it is a good and bad thing, they grow much faster and larger but they will need a lot more space to expand.....

So how do you know when to feed them? Is it particular hour of the day? do they must be fully open when you feed them?
Another question, what do you see when they accept the food. Does the head close while it eats?
Thanks for the info, I am going to try brine shrimps this week.

Blood red hammer... could you post a pic? I'd love to see a pic of a red hammer!

They will accept food at any time they are expanded. Turn off a powerhead so it is calm in their area and target feed them either brine or mysis or a combo of both (even cyclopeeze if you can get your hands on it). It will take them around 15 minutes to finish eating normally. Sometimes if you feed a lot they will digest the food for a day or two, and the day after your coral eats it may not have as good of polyp extension, only to look even bigger than it was before in a day or two.

Remember do not overfeed them, as food can rot inside them and they will die from the inside.

will post a pic of my red hammer when I get home

many thanks for both of you. hope i will get my hands on some shrimps this week.
Willie, will you feed your coral and post a pic showing him accepts the food? that will be awesome!

Or if there is anyone else who can do it.. .

They will most definitely accept it, sometimes you just have to wait longer. Certain species and sub species take longer to eat food than others. Also, little tidbit of info that I can't verify which magazine I got it from: If you feed your corals every day they grow twice as fast (generally speaking, some species faster some slower) as if you never feed them at all. Small, frequent feedings seem to be best. With more growth, however, comes more water changes and dosing. It was a study to prove scientifically that if you feed corals they grow faster. I thought it was cool that real, hard scientific data is now out there proving it and the rate at which it occurs. I know it's one of those things that is kind of like, "duhhhhh of course," but the scientific info is now available and true, and not based subjectively on hobbyists tanks.

I will snack a couple of pictures of my hammer and torch eating tonight when I feed them tonight.
For now here's just a picture of my hammer in my QT a couple of days ago. I was rearranging my tank, deciding what and which to put in my nano and my 535 big tank.

Now I put all my rare stuff in my 24 nano, and almost everything else in my 535 big DT.

Will take another pic of the red hammer later.

Wow, that looks more orange than red, unless it's the white balance on the camera making it look like that, but it is awesome regardless. Is it a wall?

It is a Red hammer, it is only my camera can't really capture the color because of my light hanging on the top. It looks much better in person also. I got this in a LFS, when I saw it, I have to get it right away. It is a wall hammer, it is also in the shape of a heart. Spent lots of money for it. I had receive offer of $800 before, but never consider selling it. This is just one of the rare piece I have in my nano tank. I took lots of picture last night while feeding them. Will post them later on a seperate thread. I will be back to link it to this thread.

Any news?
If anyone else has a photo of his euphyllia being fed I'll be more then happy if you post it here.
Thanks

I feed coral frenzy to all my LPS and they all love it, as soon as the food touch the tentacles they eat it, no matter the time of the day i feed, even my acans that only take their tentacles out at night close over the food.
