Hey guys,

While I consider myself to be half decent at identifying fish.... I'm perplexed with this one...

Any idea? I believe its a wrasse or hogfish?

Hi Dirk,

Do you have any links that show them in the above coloration, so I can confirm?

I ask this because, I also have a bodianus bimaculatus, at the same length which looks like the regular pics, as in the above link that you've posted.

Thanks!

I concur and I believe that this is therefore the correct id. Terelabrus rubrovittatus

On googling the above, there's a thread on RC, that mentions that specimens from the Indian Ocean, are white and red, as opposed to the yellow & red. In any case, I love this guy. Have just got him eating frozen brine, and hopefully should be able to move up to mysis etc.

I thank you all for your help! This was fun! Hopefully I'll get some more relatively uncommon species in future :)

its not rubrivittatus. that is the morph from Maldives. i believe it is just Terelabrus sp 2 at the moment

My specimen has 4 red stripes, while the ringed wrasses have 6 or more (from what I can see), so I kinda still believe its Terelabrus.

I'm not capable or have the patience to observe finnage :)

Not that it helps with ID, but the fish seems very docile, but active, and now eats mysis, and is always out. Current tank mate is a flasher wrasse, carpenter's, I believe. If anyone is interested in purchasing these, I'd say , go for it.
