New 10'-575g Starfire Reef Build

maybe it's the angle of the shot, but that header doesn't look big enough. what size is that and what is the span? Is there a floor above?

Guys it is two 1 3/4" x 9 1/4" x 11' long LVLs or otherwise known as engineered beams....structurally these are sound and I have no worries, there is no floor above these...

The LVL s are the least of my worries, I have others throughout the house..they are sound...when you start using 2X lumber....that is where I worry...

LVL is just a term used for an engineered beam, they make them of laminated wood and are 1 3/4 thick instead of 1 1/2 thick that 2Xs are...this is so when you use two together, they are the same width of the 2x framing that is above it.

I have roughly the same dimensions (120x36x30) I think 4 x 400 radiums in LUM III's with pfo hqi ballasts are fine without actnics. I wouldnt be able to fit 6 with those reflectors on top. save the money on wattage and get the better reflectors and use less of them. I was origianlly going to go with actinics with 10k's and decided I love the color and look this way.

I have (4) LA3 reflectors and 400 Coralvue ballasts with coralvue 10k & 12K reeflux bulbs that I plan to swap around every so often....I am going to put my VHO actinics up because I allready have them...these will primarily be used during the morning and evening as a sunrise/sunset effect..then shut off during the main MH lighting period.then at night I will go to moonlights...(leds).....
