New 10g Nano

Hi there everyone, here at Metro were starting a new 10g nano with just a few fish, filtered by some LR/LS and give us a little bit of viewing pleasure during our busy work days. We still need to put some kind of lighting above it, not sure what yet because we may do some soft corals and would like a little bit of color.

I will post some pictures next week, when I bring my camera into work and snap a few shots.

Hmm... finally got a picture today. We have a clown and a green chromis as well as 2 hermit crabs.

70w 10k with actinic PC supplement, or 150w MH.

or

Go at least 36w PC or two. 96w Quad bulb is a common choice. Quad bulbs don't have the best efficiency compared to regular PC types, but it fits well over a 10g and offers good lighting. I suggest a Sunpaq bulb vs the Coralife ones.

don't overdo the lighting. i have a ten on my desk with mushroom and leather corals, lots of green macro under the flourescent which came with the tank, just a 14 watt flourescent. Added a small coralife mini fixture for 29. to give a little more light and all is well. Don't mess with any expensive fixtures and stay away from MH.

Thanks everyone, that is the 18w PC lighting and that is all were doing. We will add a few mushrooms, maybe some xenia and that is about it besides 3 little fish.

Are you serious? So, I guess 96 Watts of PC is more then enough for my 10 gallon. Think I can keep some sps?

I love how its just so plain and simple.

Plain????? There's a freaken SHARK in there!

dunno that might freak out the REAL fish in the tank, turn them crazy always thinking a shark is after them

Thanks Everyone, those are some great comments! I think both fish are tank raised, so they will never stop swimming day and night pretty much as well as not know what to think of anything I'm thinking.

We were without fish for a little while and people wanted to see fish in there, that is where the paper fish came from as well as a sign about there being rare invisible fish in the tank. It is amazing how many people look for the rare invisible fish and say, I can't see the fish are you sure they're in there.

Our tank is still doing great, things look really good. We now have added 4 of the smaller trochus snails, which do a great job in keeping the glass clean and a Coral Banded Shrimp that everyone here just loves.

I will bring my camera in to work next week and take some more pictures.

If you want to waste your money on more lighting than you need, thats your perogative, D.S.

Hmm... Things went a little bad for a moment and we are having a hard time keeping fish now, the CB Shrimp and Emerald Crab are fine.

We had a slight leak in the 10g, the water was seeping from the bottom right corner and we caught it pretty quick. We did a tank change and used LS this time instead of the play sand that was in the current leaking tank. There was not enough play sand in it to keep it anyway, even though it was cycled and probably partly live sand now. Anyway, we setup the new tank and let the LS settle down and then moved things over and all was fine for a day or two. Then the clown was looking bad and withering away, then the green chromis died over a long weekend.

We tried a fresh TR Percula Clown and another Green Chromis which lasted about a week. The Coral Banded and Emerald Crab are still doing great and the tank looks and seems fine. We just added a couple damsels today, since they are inexpensive and no one at work wants to spend any money on the tank but myself and another. (The clowns are expensive to try again.)
