New 10gal AGA supply list-any Suggestions?

1 Standard all glass tank 10gal
1 AquaClear Powerfilter 110 (500) moded into a fuge
1 Stealth Heater 50W
1 Instant Ocean Hydrometer (I know,a refractometer is better,but this is cheap)
1 Orbit Lunar Lights 20" w/ 2-40W
20lbs Tidal Marine Substrates Color: Golden Shores Aragonite
-Instant Ocean 50 gallon mix
-Quick Dip Test Kit 25 count 5-in-1
1 ATI Safety Thermometer (stick on)
1 Power Sweep 212 (powerhead)
1 blue cold cathode and 1 UV cold cathode (for glow) moonlights

This is all that I have $$ for at the moment so I maybe getting live rock in a couple of months. I havent even gotten the go ahead from my parents yet lol. oh I forgot to say that I found all of this stuff on Drs. foster & smith. So what do you guys think? Any suggestions are welcome.

without the live rock you dont really have any method of filtration. The fuge will do a lil, but not any real ammonia or nitrite reduction. Ask around or post in the want ads to try to get some cheap live rock and sand. you dont need much for such a small tank, about 10-15 lbs of each, and then you could also not buy the dead sand you have selected. Also i would really try to get an actual test kit. you can get an aquarium phar master kit for under $15 from bigalsonline or ebay, i dont know how much it is at fosters

Oh sorry I meant that I wouldnt be starting the tank until I got the live rock. I will put live sand/rock in the fuge and tank. People sell live rock/sand locally so cant I just seed the "dead" sand with that? Thanks for the test kit suggestion. I revised my list with some suggestions over on n--r.com

i like the change to a jager heater. they are great imo. yes the live rock will eventually seed the live sand, but if you can get ahold of any, even a small quantity it will speed the process. i also have hear that power sweeps are garbage. the sweep breaks quickly. i love my maxis. you might want to check on the uv light, i heard it is not good for fish/coral. sounds like you have a good plan though! all i can say is spend as much time as you can on this forum and do your research. and dont always trust the lfs.

so far i love my power sweep! i would if i were you go witha larger tank 1st of all what are you planning to put in there? 10 gallons is not much and if your new to the hobby trust me you will want a little bigger tank more room for mistakes. you can a lot of times find a good deal if you join a club in your area. good luck take it slow and have fun!
