Your algae could be using the phosphate while it is in the water column so the test would show 0. Kind of an equilibrium

Finally...I've got a calcium reactor!!! Hopefully my new return pump will be here on Friday, along with my starboard so I can have fun, fun, fun this weekend!
I just tested my tank water with my new Salifert kits, and it shows 0.0 PO4 (hmm, I thought for sure that would be different) and 400 for calcium. Let's hope that the BB and Calc Reactor will help maintain those numbers while boosting the growth and helping get rid of the macros.

Yes, they are going on the returns. The returns are in the corners of the tank, so I plan on having them shoot towards the front of the tank glass, with the Tunze's shooting across the tank.

Clown: Sorry to disappoint you, but I think it's the only choice I've got. I did ALOT of research on it, and it came down to two simple choices:
1. If I want to keep the sand, I'll probably have to forego most SPS (esp. Acros), which is what I want to keep.
2. If I ditch the sand, I'll have a (hopefully) very clean/nutrient poor system, which is good for SPS, but not so good for softies.
Basically, I want a tank full of SPS, so I think I have to go Nude Bottom. I think it will look great, given a few months of coraline growth.

Yeah, I know it isn't the only way...remember, I currently have a SB. That's the great thing about our tanks, we can always change something later on...boy, can you feel the power of God at your finger tips (muhwa ha ha ha!!!)
Oh, and I'm trying to start a new trend: Instead of bare bottom, I'm going for NUDE BOTTOM! Catchy, no? :lol:

Well, here's where I'm at as of 6:30pm (I started this at 9:30am...been a looong day).

Cost wise, it really isn't that expensive (at least in reefing terms). For just Nude Bottom, the only direct cost was for the starboard, which was $80. But with everything else I did, it's well over the $1000 mark.

OK..here's another huge picture update.
First, here's the equipment in the basement.
The new setup...very user friendly. Still messy since I was still working on stuff this week.
The refugium (upper tank)
The filter pads on my PVC rack. The blue is the macro pad, then a 100 micron pad, then carbon. I know there are some that won't like this, but if you looked at the crap that is trapped you'd freak! I'm gonna stick with it for a bit.
My new MRC calcium reactor. It's working well...when it's on. The pH controller has it shut off since my pH is running very low since the switch. Working on keeping it above 8.0 I'm dripping Kalk to raise it up, and aerating the water.
The new Reeflo Barraccuda. Very nice, and pretty darn quiet for it's size.
The return line off the Barraccuda. I thought it would be nice to have that cap, in case of a necessary clean out!
