New 180 rimless issues

I finally received my 180 rimless I had ordered a few months back from my LFS (which I later found out was ordered from glasscages...). It actually looks pretty decent and is built like a tank. I have a few concerns though...

1) There is a crack/chip on the backside towards the bottom. It doesn't look like it reaches the silicone as seen in the pictures. The tank also has trim going around the bottom on the inside. The LFS doesn't think it will be an issue, but we are still planning on filling it with silicone before filling the tank.

2) One corner of the tank does not touch the stand. I assume using styrofoam is the best fix for this, but any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Yeah styrefoam will fix the issue with it not touching the stand. As for the chip,my 120 has a chip exactly like that and has not affected it at all. But I'm pretty sure having that tank built cost a pretty penny for a 180g tank and I would be a little upset about it if it was me spending that much coin on a tank and them chipping the glass regardless of what the lfs says.

Yea I am not an expert but I be dang if I spend a bit load of money on something I am expecting to be supper nice and it has a chip or scratch in it I would make them send me a new one and pay for this one to be returned you deserve to get what you paid them for and nothing less

+1. I would not accept this. That's a lot of money to spend on something with a defect. This isn't a dent on the back of a refrigerator you won't see. This is a fragile environment you are going to pour w lot of money into as well as taking on responsibility for living creatures. Who knows if this will cause a problem in the future. I for one wouldn't want to find out the hard way.

Good luck and sorry that sucks.

Thanks for the replies...it was definitely disappointing to see the tank arrive in this condition. I will continue to try to work it out with the LFS!

Your pictures are not viewable to me, but a chipped tank (let alone a cracked one) is simply not acceptable. Ask your LFS if they will cover any incidental damage if the tank breaks and see if they still 'don't think it's an issue'. Also, stand should support the tank along all sides and in all corners. I don't know whether GC recommend foam or not, but following the advice of the manufacturer is always wise.

Thanks all for the replies so far...I'm going to try to repost the pictures for those who can't see them...

I don't think there is anything to work out with this tank. Flat out I would not accept it (btw I can't see any of the photos going by what you are saying).

If I order a brand new car - show up at the dealership and the car has a big dent in the bumper I am not accepting it. I don't care if they bang out the dent. That is just crazy. Give me a new car that is what you paid for.

If you want a used tank with some flaws you could pay probably half what you paid for this.

Good luck!

Thanks again for the replies. Not sure what's wrong with the pictures but you guys are all right, I shouldn't accept the tank. I will try to work with the guy to get a new one.

Good luck. It's so disappointing to have that happen. That may be something that happened during shipping, an impact producing a little torque, which has to do with the other problem. It would worry me.

In my opinion, the local fish shop I should have a quality inspection when the tank arrives to ensure that this does not happen and they can reject the tank back to the manufacturer. Manufacture needs to know if he's quality issues before sending a product out.

It should be the shops responsibility to ensure customer satisfaction while also keeping a dealer in check by rejecting poor quality product. Like a warranty process.
