new 240 project

It's been quite a while since I updated my post... not too much has happened over the past couple of months. I have been adding fish to my system including a pair of japanese swallowtail angels, a pair of bellus angels, an african equisite wrasse, and a pink-tail trigger, who is currently in quarentine.

However, yesterday I installed my new Aqua-Illumination 72" LED fixture!! (Merry Christmas to me!!) I purchased through reefgeek.com, with an excellent experience. I received the lights in about 2-3 days, and the support rails 2 days later. It took a couple hours to build (I needed to shorten the support rails by a couple inches, to work with my canopy). When I powered it up, it was set at 30% white/ 20% blue max intensity and is already brighter than the PC fixtures I was using! I took some par measurements with the old fixtures and will hopefully take some with the new fixture today. I plan to slowly ramp up the light to 100% over the next few weeks. I will post my par results. I don't have much in the way of coral growing right now, so I can't provide direct observations regarding coral growth or lack thereof.

So far though, I love the system! Virtually no heat, very quiet, low power consumption, high build quality, and brighter lights than what I'm used to! The controller is easy to use, and setup was a breeze.

I will try to post photos soon with the fixture in place.

Here are a few pics....

My aquaillumination system is currently set at 35% white 25% blue max intensity, so as not to shock the inhabitants. I will be increasing the intensity slowly.

My par readings are about 4000-8000 lux at the top of my rock structure, 2000 - 6000 mid tank, and 1000 - 3000 at the bottom. With my PC fixtures, I maxxed at 3000 near the water surface and as low as 200 at sand level.

Just a quick post... I slowly adjusted the output of the aqua-illumination LEDs to 100% intensity over a period of 2 weeks. My PAR meter indicates 25,000 lumens at the surface and 10,000 lumens at the sand. This excedes my previous lighting by about 25x !! The fixture is overall very quiet. I can hear the fans running now that I have it maxed, but they are still hardly noticable. As promised, my tank temp has not fluctuated or increased at all! It is stable at 78 degrees without a chiller! I have added a few coral frags that seem to be happy thus far, but it is still too early to rate growth. I will try and get more photos up and continue to post progress.
