New 3155 optical sensor broken

I set this up less than a week ago on a 20gL qt tank w 20g sump. it has been working fine but today I check and the water level is very low in the sump. The optical sensor is doing nothing.
Very disappointed that less than a week into its use and I'm having a problem.
 
After unplugging the power and plugging it back in it worked long enough to pump some water back into the sump but it stopped well short of getting the optical sensor wet. It's still about two inches above the water line
 
Does the controller show a constant green light even if the water level is low? Have you verified that their is no water flowing over the sensor (for example it is on or near a partition), it only detects air vs water and cannot differentiate between water pouring over it or being submerged. Have you verified no debris is stuck to the sensor, for example a snail or piece of algae would also cause it to act as if it was submerged.

Yes it shows the green light on all the time unless I unplug it. Nothing around it or stuck to it. It is a qt tank so no snails. Everytime I unplug it it shows low level when I turn it on, then it turns the pump on for about thirty seconds. I kept doing this and the optical sensor turned the pump on even when submerged, to the point if turning the float alarm on.

The pump will always run when you first turn it on, this is to prime the pump and verify the operation. Try this, remove the optic sensor from water so it is dry, plug in the controller, it will flash 4 lights, then 1, this 1 light is the sensor status, green is pass, yellow is generally dirty, can be as simple as fingerprints, red is fail, usually a wire is broken in the cable.
 
If you email me the invoice and it was less than 30days we will set up a return label and replace the controller. Tunze at sbcglobal dot net.
 
Unfortunately not as It was bought Black Friday as a Christmas present, and I just set it up last week. so now what?
 
Not much changes except you would need to ship it in, the turnaround and service will be the same, within a day of getting it, we will replace the defective component and ship it back.
