A quiet room is 50db, a quiet neighborhood street is about 70db, 20db would be practically inaudible, someone whispering as quietly as the can is still about 40db. I use an iPhone app db meter Pro, it was $3 as I recall, at the factory they have a professional meter and the results are comparable. I can say I have yet to find a room in my house that had less than 48db ambient noise and that is just the wind against the windows and the AC ductwork. 58-60db is a very low number. The db scale is logarithmic so an increase of 1db is a 10 fold increase.

New app to play with.....always great to be using an iphone around your tank .

What I consider near silent around my tank is about 55-ish decibels, I guess I was off in what I thought decibels were .
