New Acan! What do I feed this thing??

I got an acan the other day from TFF.. its a Ring of Saturn (or so he said).. I bought a frag of it (around 10-15 heads) but due to some complications I ended up getting a colony (around 50 heads).. First off, what do I feed this thing??? The tentacles have been out some during the day and far out at night, should I wait till all the lights go off then try spraying it with some ground up fish food? (the same tiny particles I usually feed my other corals)

Any help would be appreciated!!

if you want you can spray some mysis in there. Most of the time it will grab stuff when u feed the tank. I also feed my coral cyclopeez(spelling) they seem to like it...

You can Target feed it anything you feed your tank...mine will even eat flake! The best results I have had with my acans is using fauna marin lps food, medium sized. This stuff works wonders!

Thanks for the suggestions.. I'll try mysis this afternoon and see how that goes.

I ended up paying $30 for it. However, 2 of my other pieces did not arrive so they sent this bigger acan colony to make up for the two missing pieces.. evens out I guess.. still not really happy about what happened but I did get a nice acan..

My opinion would be unless its something you really DON'T want that badly, don't buy from them. I ordered two other things that I really wanted (one of which was a purple fungia with an orange rim and the other a nice zoa colony) and neither showed up. Instead, for the zoas I got a bunch of "replacements" that they chose at their disgression (only half of which have opened) and for the fungia I got a plain green one. Not happy at all! :furious:

After going back and forth a few times, I finally found out that an employee sold the fungia without knowing and that the zoa's were looking not healthy enough to ship. SO, they sent me a large acan colony to "make up for it" and would only offer me a refund on the fungia.

Sorry to rant. I just wanted to make sure that nobody saw this and thought that they were offering great deals on acans. There's more to this than meets the eye.. :hmm2:

You guys should check out Donavan's Reef or whatever it is. Good stuff and I had no problems when I ordered from him.

I always fed my Acans PE mysis. I would use my hand or tongs to hold the piece of mysis until the Acan got a good grip. Feeding Acans is wicked cool.

Sounds like mysis is the way to go! Stupid question time now, sorry, what does PE stand for when talking about mysis? I've always used Hikari brand 16oz flats becuase I burn through food so fast but now I'm wondering is there some better version of mysis out there?

That sucks to hear about TFF. I've checked out the site many times, but have never ordered. Seems to have some nice stuff on occasion. I guess I won't be now for sure.

Nice Acan! I assume TFF is "frag farmer"? If so, I think I got a piece of the same one from them. I ended up buying 3 acans from them and all are doing really well.

I feed a ton of different foods, but I don't bother target feeding them. I feed mysis, fish eggs, rod's food, cyclopeeze, rotifers, liquid zoaplankton, etc. I feed 4-5x per day because of my anthias, and all of the LPS seem to love it. I feed 3x/day dry food through an auto feeder (coral vibrance, mixed with otihime from FAOIS) and 1-2x/day a random mix of the stuff above.

Acans seem to love eating. Once they get established they will grow like crazy.
