Definately quite the interesting fish. :) I had to spend a few minutes watching him when I was there because I don't see them that often. I hear they may munch on inverts... you have many of those to worry about?

i have some large peps a coral banded a fire shrimp.. if they can handle my wrasse i think they will b fine with the file fish... i hope...lol

its eating froze and flake not sre if hes eating the aips. havent seen him doing so.. hes still fighting off the 4 bar. but luckily he still has the protection of the bluehead for the most part. i really like him mine is a pale yellow color but changes obviously whenever he feels the need.

Good points: This fish eats prepared foods -frozen well. Acclimates quickly and is very disease resistant.

In the wild it likes to mimic some surroundings and often hides in seaweed beds.
Looks for crustaceans to eat and other "small" aquatic life.

May eat aips and some other nuisance things if it gets the taste for them.

Some aggressive fish may pick at it. Other tank mates could break this up enough to not have it be an issue. Unless the aggressor fish is just way too aggressive.

Watch your Corals
Reported to pick at certain polyps. But don't let this be a downer right away.

I've seen reports- some people having good luck- not bothering their corals.(depending on what they have?) Others have gotten rid of because it picked.

Could be a case like with some other fish, an "individual type thing". If they get "used to" their behavior or not...

TRY feeding it regularly, maybe some extra mini feedings if you can.
Get it used to seeing you every time for the "food".

Maybe it will behave itself. It's a real cool fish! Good luck.

Let us know how it goes for you.
I'm really interested in how things go.

May the Force be with you Rogue!

Deep all the things you stated are true except i havent seen him pick at corals or aips yet... that being said the file and my blue headed wrasse are the most friendly in the tank know when im at the tank they will usually get fed. he has been a real nice addition to my tank... my diamond goby on the other hand is just creating a sand storm cvering all my rock and corals. so im waving water over the areas cleaning them off. whata pain.

Cool Rogue!

Give me any updates that may happen with file fish as time passes by.

I'm interested how it does.
I'd like to try one.
But nervous about corals.

I have softies(which I'm not concerned about)

But LPS & some SPS as well.. Don't want nothing ruined.
Any insite from you with your on going experience over time,
would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have alot of softies.. but i also have lps and 1 sps. but as i was talking with my wife the only thing she has seen him do is pick at the rock.. like maybe eating baby aips???? but she said she hasent seen him picking at any of the corals either. the 4 bar aggression has cooled down to only bothers the file whe e comes near the 4 bars area wich so happens is right near tha manjos...lol
