New Anemone Questions.

I just got a bleached BTA a few days ago. Besides being bleached it appears healthy. Taking in food I give it (only mysis and freeze-dried krill atm), attached almost immediately to the rock and now he's wandering trying to find a place he's happy with.

Questions I have:

How long till it'll start getting its color back. I'm curious what color it will turn out to be. The body has a slight brown/red ting and it has red tips but it doesn't look like a bleached rose or green bta I've seen in the past.

Do they eventually settle in a place typically open to the light? Currently he's just moved into a dark corner and I can't feed him but not really all that concerned about him.

I'll be picking up frozen krill and silversides next time I'm at the LFS as Mysis probably aren't much of a meal.

Color seems to sound like it is a RBTA, but you really can be 100% sure, until the color does come back...

It will eventually find a spot that it likes under the correct lighting and it will stay there. The whole, hiding thing really shouldn't last longer than a week or so, otherwise try to get it turned out towards the light, even if it means reaquascaping.

I would stay away from silversides IMO. They have been thought to sometimes be the cause for found illnesses in anemones that have lead to their deaths. I would stick with the mysis for now, and shrimp. Maybe some clam every now and then.

Sounds good. Not going to disturb him for the rest of the week. I'll try to squirt a little mysis down where he's at so some will stick to him when I feed the tank every couple days.

Nothing on the side of tank where he's at but some zoanthids that I don't think either will mind bumping into. I'll move my small SPS and Leather frags off that side tonight incase he moves around a lot.

Thanks for the reply.

As for how long, it will vary, but I would think a month or two before it has fully regained its color --- depending on just how bleached it is. You will see an improvement before that, but for a full recovery I would expect that time frame. That is how long it took my bleached LTA to fully recovery.
