I just got this today and have never seen an anemone that looks like this before. If anyone knows what it is that would be great. Here is a picture its pretty poor quality but its the best I have for right now. The color doesnt show to well. It resembles an elegance color wise atleast some of it.

Malu..i'd bet money on it. As far as whether it's dyed or not. I'm not sure. I've seen some pretty crazy malu colors on DD

Well if it is a sebae, it's dyed. If it is a maul, then it's fine! :)

This is going to come off sounding very rude and I apologise. That being said, this doesn't even come close to resembling H.mag nor is it even close to being dyed. Please take a bit more time before you post so quickly.

+1 malu

Well I'm sorry but I've never kept a H. Mag or a Malu! In the first picture it looked like an H. Mag and then in the second picture I still couldn't tell so I gave it an educated guess. Sorry for being so bad at guessing an anemone's type in a fuzzy picture.

Granted most of us are guessing, and the overall goal is to help the main poster out. But it should be as you said, an "educated guess", not a "roll of the dice guess" Blind guess or statements don't help the original poster much. I apologise once again if this is coming out sounding like a personal attack.

Thanks everyone that picture was taken anout 5 mintutes after I put it into my tank. When I got home just now from work it it was opened up alot more and my clowns where already in them. Here is another pic to show it open. My lights are off during the pic.

I love to see better pictures of this anemone, especially when it settles in for a few months. To me, it looks more like a Heteractis aurora rather than a Heteractis malu. Close up pictures the mouth, the tentacles and of the column would be great for ID purposes.

A lot of the time when H. auroras come in they are so stressed that they lose the bumps on their tentacles and just the rings remain. That being said, I would say that it is a text book H. malu. The only thing that would make me change my mind to H. aurora would be if it had a red foot.

Ill try and get some pics later on when its all settled in, the foot isnt red btw.

I have a question right now the anemone is in my 20g tank with a 175w metal halide hanging 12 inches over the top. The anemone seems to be smaller once the light is on and when the light goes off it gets much bigger. The store I got it from had it under halides so im not sure why it would do this?

Also if I wanted to put it if my 75g tank would my lights be enough for it. I have 4*65 watt pcs with individual reflectors. The water quality is much better in that tank than the 20g. Just not sure how light demanding this anemone is.
