picked up a new anemone a few days ago.
don't know the exact species.

its mostly white / transparent.
the end of each tentacle has a single red or purple dot.

waiting for my tomato clown to host in this guy...

anyone know the species name of this anemone?

luckly he dropped into my tank after an hour acclimation. floated over to the first rock he landed on, attached, and hasn't moved since. and lucky for me its not a rock facing the back of the tank =)

any tips on feeding them . the guy at the LFS said hes 92% photosynthetic ... 92%? where'd that number come from...

If it is white, Then it probably is going to die. All the zooithalia it needs to photosynthisis is gone.

I would feed it mysis, blood worms, siver sides, phyto planketon

Hopefully it will recover.

I would make sure the food is chopped up nice and small, So that it easy to digest. I use a turkey baster to feed mine. Do you have any clowns for it.

yes i have a tomato clown but he wont go in it. hes very interested in a piece of rock i belive his mind is hosted in. since the rock was there before the anemone. how fast should i squeeze the baster into it? i ahve some frozen "prime reef" cubes. would that work for feeding it? its not completly white. .. well everything but the tips of the tenticles are. i wish i had a camera..

no this is not my anemone but it looks alot like this guy

is this a bleached anemone or is he healthy?

That anemone is definitely bleached.

First of all, what kind of lights do you have it under? Many anemones are quite capable of coming back from this bleached state, and yours still has quite a chance to recover its zooxanthellae.

I've heard of people feeding prime reef, but small pieces of silverside, krill, shrimp, even scallops and squid are also good choices. Be sure to try a variety of things. It's also important to try to make sure that clown stays out of it for now, and you may have to separate them if it does decide to host. Tomato clowns can get kinda rowdy with their anemones, and yours doesn't need the added stress.

Good luck! Keep us posted, and try to get us some pictures!

been googling white anomines. and it looks like mine is a " pink tipped Haitian anemone" or a condy anemone. dont think hes suppose to have color

my lighting isint the best
t5 normal outputs. getting MH upgrade in a few weeks. trying to keep light requirend things low. but wanted something soft and moving in my tank aside from rock and this thing was only 11 dollars so it was the first try. so far it seems to have enough lighjt

this is an atlantic anemone and does not encounter clownfish in the wild it is not a natural host for clownfish and if it is healthy enough it could eat your clownfish

great maybe this thing should go back to the LFS...

i judge what i keep if it can eat somethign more expensive than it. 11 dollar anemone eating a 20 dollar clown = no good...

so whats a nice reef safe anemone i should pick up? some form of bubble tip? or get one of those cool looking carpet ones?

i would take it back and not get any anemone until your tank has fully cycled
anemones need the best water quality and high light they are among the hardest to keep animals in our tanks
it is best to wait at least 4months but 6 months is reccomended

also it says your tank has 15 pounds of rock i would add another 25 pounds soon that way your tank gets a real chance to cycle

BTA is a good starter anemone when you are ready
carpets are pretty difficult but if you find a good one your luck will be better

yeah thanx need to update my sig =P
my water conditions have been extermlly well my entire tanks life. currently 1.0255
ammoniona 0.0
trates 0.0
trite 0.0

yay for skimmers!

a few months ago my LFS sold me a "mini carpet" as a host for my perculas i thought it was a small haddoni when i got home i posted pics and sure enough my LFS had ripped my off
never trust the LFS

ok .. so how do i get this thing off my rock? it seems happy where it is and i dont want to say its stronger than me.. but i dont want to rip it in half either..
