To me it looks more like a replacement for sopirax etc, than zeomix. The part I don't get is the replacement part. Of its a media to house bacteria like sopirax I don't get why you would then remove it.

More information on the Life Bio Fil please. Can we get an image of the contents of the container?
Can it be used to quickly cycle a new Tank and how long?
Thanks.

Yes it helps with the cycle, each tank will be different though, so you will still need to test Amonia > Nitrite > Nitrate as the quality of live rock isn't universal

The replacement s to keep the bacteria levels optimum

So basically this is a media similar to sporax, matrix and the other ones like it, but it contains bacteria straight out of the package to help seed the bacteria population quickly?

Piper,
Yes, as far as I know, this will replace siporax or matrix, it however is recommended to change out 10% every 6 weeks or so. The other difference is that is comes with bacteria already seeded straight away, this is why I think this product will be awesome :) I plan on using it to replace my matrix when it comes available.

Perry, can the Life Bio fil can be used in conjunction with ZEO Mix? If so can you use them in the same reactor? Or is it a direct replacement?

You wouldn't put it in a reactor, you would want it in the lowest flow area of the sump to allow denitrifying bacteria to colonize. It is like putting in a bunch of live rock, it has nothing to do with zeostones which is a different thing entirely. The zeostones remove ammonia from the water, which in turn lowers nitrates because there is less ammonia for bacteria to convert. The Bio Fil is basically a "home" for the bacteria to live.

I gotcha. But since it has denitrifying bacteria already seeded and needs to be changed out as often as zeolites...isn't it basically zeolites...

No, because zeolites help nitrifying bacteria, not denitrifying bacteria.

Nitrifying convert ammonia to nitrite, to nitrate. Denitrifying convert nitrate to CO2 which is then gassed off. The latter are much harder to colonize in an aquarium as they need low flow and virtually no oxygen. Nitrifying bacteria are ready to go in about four weeks (your cycle) but denitrifying take much longer and that is assuming there is a place for them to grow. This is where the media comes in, they allow the denitrifying bacteria to live deep inside where there is almost no water flow. This is also why you typically change out some media periodically, as the bacteria only live so long and when they die they will start to clog the media pores. Other brands of media such as Siporax and Eheim SubstratPro recommend the same thing, but at the same time some people use it for years and never touch it without issue.
