Finally got things back on track in my quarantine tank, the Mitratus had popeye, so I spent the last week trying to get the swelling to go down. Finally got him better and there going in the display tomorrow.

I love the Chaetodon mitratus, but the Radiant Wrasse is spectacular!!!! They are quite finicky and has required some serious care to keep him healthy through his arrival to now, so if anyone is thinking about getting one, just drop me a message and I'll try to provide some advice.

Great looking Mitratus and wrasse, found my Mitratus on the tile floor over the weekend so I am very jealous of you... Not a good saltwater weekend for me

Dmorty217.

We both got the mitratus at the same time and from the same place, so I feel your pain. Such a beautiful fish, very sorry to hear of your loss.

Thanks, I can live thru you for now. Crazy how your developed Popeye and mine didn't. Either way glad yours is healthy now. Such a beautiful butterfly

Yeah, not sure with the popeye, was frustrating and disheartening seeing him with the bulging eyes, very happy to see him recover from it. I'll post some more pics later.

Learn from my mistake, cover your tank. All of my QT system is covered besides the 100g Rubbermaid that the Mitratus was in and I learned that lesson the 350$ way instead of the 10$ way. I would of been upset about the Popeyes too, glad he is all better for you now. Sick fish has me where I am now with everything in QT and let me tell you it's no fun and a lot of work keeping up two systems that total 600g+.

Did you really have the Rubbermaid filled to the top, for one little fish?

Not to the top but it is serving as he sump for the 75g and 210g that are hooked up to it. Had the Regal in there with him... Regal died, day and a half later the Mitratus jumped. There is 6 or more inches before the top of the rubbermaid (possibly more). Never thought in a million years the little guy could jump that high. Come on Peter i believe in overkill but thats a little much!

In they go, went into the display this afternoon.

The mitratus looks even better under proper lighting.

Inquisitive little fish, not sure if he's really brave or really dumb, he keeps scaring the carp out of me, first he goes swimming right under the anemone. Then he goes snooping in the coral banded shrimp cave, only to get a nice jab from the CBS.

The weird thing is, he won't leave the CBS alone, I'm not sure if he thinks it's a cleaner or something, but he keeps going and sliding up next to him.

I'd be up all night wondering if that CBS is gonna get a hold of him because he thinks he's getting a cleaning:uhoh2:
I had a great little reef lobster in a little cave & my multibar did the same thing but actually laid down in front of it! I couldn't believe what I was seeing & the reef lobster came out, snapped his claw twice & retreated. The multibar popped up, swam away normally, but "sought it out" again. I had to move the lobster because this fish was beautiful, yet stupid, lol. Anyway, the tank looks great & best of luck.

That sounds very similar behavior as to what happened here, when I first put him in, he sort of went right in the path of the CBS and was really still, almost like what you see when they pull up to a cleaning station, the shrimp was quite honestly confused and reacted by putting his big pincher on the very top fin. That's when I freaked and thrashed my hand in to shoo the mitratus away. I wonder why they did this?

I think he's learned his lesson now though, I checked earlier and looks like he's bedded down to far right of the tank, (cbs cave is far left).

Thanks, he's called Reggie, after Reggie Wayne haha

I ordered a baby, under 2", NYaquatic sent me Reggie, and he was already, I would say 6-7", he's huge.

How did you lose your regal? What acclimation process did you do?

Really living thru you now! Mitratus and a Regal...

I lost mine because I started dosing chloroquine phosphate, half dose first day followed by the full dose on the second and the Regal just responded poorly to the meds. I have found that some fish seem to do this if not established and fat and healthy. The next Regal I try I will leave in a tank for a few months and not proactively treat with meds for ich. Will do TTM before adding to my DT but no more CP

That sucks, I have not had good experience with CP.

Your probably already doing this, but something that has been really helpful for me is not drip acclimating. When I first started ordering fish online I thought that was the correct way to do it, but found out later how bad that is for the new arrivals. Since stopping drip acclimating I have had way more success. I really think that Sk8ers thread on the subject should be a sticky.
