well, not quite. I just got 3 Dispar anthias last night. Ordered them tru LIghthouse Corals (thanks RHETT). left hte lights off as I released them and for a few hours while we went to the store. came back and turned the lights on. they were hiding behind my overflow box. all three just chillin. as they got used to the light they came out rather quickly. My tomini saw them and charged. one left the water and came back and went straight for the rock. burried himself. he hasnt moved since. I can see him with a light and he is breathing but has not changed position. was the same this morning before I went to work. the other two however, retreated at that time back to the overflow and have stayed there as a refuge coming out as soon as the tangs are gone. fed some flake and they seemed interested but didnt eat. waited a few hrs and then fed cyclopeze. they stayed out the entire feeding time (albeit close to their refuge) and ate very well. actually let me sit by the tank and watch them eat. it was very reassuring to see that.

now, to my question. Has anyone ever had a fish dart so hard into the rock that it got wedged? the place where the one is was the same place the previous anthias I tried hid, but I think he may have gotten in too deep. I did see him move slightly, but not much.

any advice?

That's a tough one to call, If you poke at him he may get more stressed but will LYK if he Is stuck? I'm surprised the Tang Is showing any Interest In them at all, Kinda out of character that Anthia's would be a threat to him? All will settle down In time hopefully B4 any casualties occur. They were really nice fish, Good luck!

Thanks Pool. yea, I may wait one more day before I do anything drastic. I will be hands in the tank this weekend fragging like mad for the swap. ill see what his status is tomorrow and them make a call. I was thinking just lifting the rock slightly and coaxing him out of there.

Funny you said that, I made 25 Frags today but they are not for sale the new owners want to split the corals so they can have frags of colony's they don't get! It's killing me not to have anything to sell at the swap this year....But I may just do some buying at the very end for cheap?

I would wait it out another day since it is still breathing and does not seem stressed. I had a Koran Angel dart into a coconut house one time. When I got home, I noticed that he was stuck. I lifted the coconut house and rock off of him and he swam around for about 30 seconds. After that he darted around the tank like he was on crack, turned on his side, had a seizure and died. Sounds odd, but it's a true story. I don't think that applies to your situation, but I thought I would share it anyway. Good luck and I hope they all settle in ok.

from my experience anthias can be very skittish to begin with...They are such awesome fish though..I think he will be fine, unless he stresses himself out so much that it becomes the end of him...I had a show size hippo tang in my old tank that did the same thing and i had to free him...he was huge though, like 6.5 inches long, and extremely fat, had to move the live rock to get him. good luck!

all is well tonight. came home and all 3 are united behind the overflow. came out when they heard the tangs frenzy on a seaweed sheet. staying in the top back corner, but hey, they are out trying to eat the glass on the tank. they will get some cyclopeze here a bit later.

Pool, yea, the tangs can be little devils. the powder brown can be the worst, then the tomini then the purple. will go after anything new ive put in the tank no matter what it is. only last maybe 2 days then they could care less. idiot fish.

SWEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!! All 3 ate tonight. and they are getting a little less scared of the tang patrol.

on a side note, I did some MAJOR fragging tonight and have filled my frag shelf with lots of MIllipora. have a very nice Valida frag and have decided not to frag the tri color because it would only produce single branches. I moved it up and into a better current so maybe it will gro a bit more. also went on a tulip anemone killing spree spreading home made kalk paste on them and some gps. LOL looks like it snowed in some places on my tank. will vac up the dead tomorrow.

Very cool Pickup!! I am sure you will enjoy your new ANthias as much as I enjoy my Blotchy Deepwater Anthias. Not too many out there..so enjoy your babies!!

wife said they have found a place in the front corner of hte tank next my frag shelf. the tang patrol has decided they are not worth the trouble and are now leaving them alone. maroon momma has not found them so all is well. all three eat voraciously on the cyclopeze. will phase in the flake over the next few weeks or so. get them to eat that and life will be very very good. supposedly they area shallow water fish so they will do well in the lights and the tank.
