New Blue S. Gigantea

Just thought I'd post an uodate. After figuring out the flow from the powerhead and dealing with an intial/only interest from a new butterfly. It is doing great.

Here are some pics. uploadfromtaptalk1451753742286.jpguploadfromtaptalk1451753747845.jpg

It was SOOOO rewarding when I released my little orange skunk fish into the tank and she went right to the Crispa...did not detour, did not waiver. Been there ever since. :D :D

Congrats on your pairing - that's just so cool, isn't it?

Yes very cool. I've had other clowns and anemones. But it was something special when it was this anemone.

Just thought I'd share an update picture.

Its getting big and beautiful. This picture is cropped and taken from the side of the tank.

Thanks for the update. I read the entire thread again and it made me feel a little better about a recovering gig I currently have. It went through shrinking just like yours one night after a heavy feeding but came back to its normal form about 20 mins later. It didn't deflate, it just almost completely retracted. Mine is bleached though but regaining its color back. At this point because it's still in fairly decent shape I am hesitant to put it through Cipro treatment.

Just thought I'd post an update and say my gig is doing wonderful. Almost a month a half.

Just a quick question about what looks like a bubble on the side of her that I saw. Anyone know what it is? Should I be concerned? Is it just where another fold will occur?

Sorry for the bad photos.

So I'm worried about my beautiful Gig.

I've had it in the tank since mid December. Looks gorgeous, however in the last couple of days (from Friday). It shrunk and last night looks like it totally deflated itself. It's still stuck on it's rock. Last night it was deflated when I went to bed, this morning I looked at it when the lights were off and it was back to it's normal look (inflated but smaller) at night.

However when the lights when full on this morning it appears to be back at it's deflated state. My clowns that have hosted it are still hosting it.

Should I be concerned or will they go through periods like this? Or will they just fall apart this fast.....

The only thing that changed is I added a little red haddoni to the tank (on Monday) but it's not touching or near the gig. The haddoni seems to be doing great, except have to figure out how to keep my juv. queen from picking at it, but that's a different story. I

did move a power head up a little that might have been providing it a little more flow too. But I don't think that would cause what is happening now. The mouth has been open and closed but definitely inverted.

Thanks for the help.

I would add some carbon if you don't have it already. Even if the Haddoni is not touching or even if it's on the other side of the tank they can still have some adverse effects. Best when housing different nems to run carbon to reduce the effects of differing chemical makeup of the sting.

Thanks. I run a sole dedicated carbon reactor, so that should address this.

I was speaking to a friend that is knowledgeable and he believes it's just flushing itself out. He's seen it numerous times. Stated that for a big carpet to fully flush they could deflate and stay smaller for a couple of days.

Also it appears that it is moving down the rock it is on today. I'm at work otherwise I would move my power head down a little.

My big gig did this when it ate a snail. Look for a empty shell nearby.

A word of caution: haddoni appear to be carriers of pathogens that can infect a healthy gigantea. Hopefully you QTed the haddoni before it was added to the DT.

Definitely keep an eye on the gig to make sure it's not continuously deflating.

Thanks, I'll look. I wonder if there is some toxin in snails. It's interesting my golden dwarf decided to rip apart a turbo snail either Friday or Saturday night. I didn't think anything of it beside, another snail bit the dust and it clouded the water a bit before the filter clean it out. Maybe it absorbed something from the snail.

I'm happy to report looking at my webcam it appears that it is not deflated like earlier this morning. Actually looks like it moved a little lower and is re-inflating. So hopefully this is positive.

Happy to report, got home and she looks as happy as a clam...or an anemone....

Now just have to get a juv. queen angel from picking on my new red haddoni. You'd think a healthy carpet would give the little guy a sting. It's not retracting but I notice where the queen has been bother it is discolored.

I'd no problem adding a clown to protect it but don't want to have a war with my other pair of clowns hosting the gig.

Time to remove the angel. They tend to pick on nems and I've heard stories of them killing them.

It's going as soon as I can get home. Last night I notice the angel was picking a little on my new haddoni. I was able to spend more time last night and now today I've been observing over my web cam that the little jerk is picking on both anemones, which is probably the reason I'm having the deflating or shrinking with the GIG.

The juv. queen is relative a new addition to the tank; so bye bye angel. Hopefully everyone will be alright till this evening.

So an update queen is now gone and will be replaced by a beautiful powder blue.

As for 'Big Blue (my gigs name), she is back and fully open. Probably bigger than before. I'll try to get an update pic.
