and I figured I share a few more... I have a second layer of shelf rock coming in the next couple weeks so it looks kind of plain.

Lights were off. That center rock weighs about 50 pounds to get a perspective.

1" Orange Shoulder behind the Scribbled

Well I just upgraded to my 220, but have had plans for a large tank. Might have to wait a few years though :-(. I'll probably end up settling with a tennenti or something. I know they get HUGE though, and beautiful when they're full-grown.

I love Vlamingi tangs but they are way too large for my 350 gallon tank. I dream of larger tanks, my wife dreams too, but those dreams are not consistent.

I know of some Vlamingi's that make the 20,000 gallon reef tank they swim in look small :eek1: They cruise the 40' length of that aquarium in the blink of an eye.

Plans for a bigger tank ? They get just under 2 feet long.

the main issue is that theyre ocean going and not a reef fish. these animals dont understand walls at all. this was the problem i had with my flashlight fish even though they were only 3"

I'm hoping those tangs will go into the 20,000 tank?

My new house originally had a 15,000 g system in it... just re did the plans to 200,000 gallons... I stopped by the Georgia Aquarium last week and well, yea.

I'll have the ocean in my house.

Let us know when you make your build thread in the Large Reef Tank forum. There are many helpful posters who have worked for or built public aquariums who can help you out and give you advice about equipment for that scale tank. Good luck.

Edit: I see you have read nahham's 20,000 gallon tank build thread. I was going to suggest that you contact Mr. Wilson, but you may know him already.

Yea I've skimmed through it. Since everything is on paper and I'm still trying to find the ideal location I have not sat anyone down yet. I will keep everyone updated. I have a few companies bidding for the project at 15,000 g, yet to get the new estimate for 200,000

200,000 gallons, your talking well over a million dollars in construction costs and life support equipment. Never mind salt, livestock, and routine maintenance costs.

The tank will be cement with acrylic viewing.. one panel will be in a long hallway, the main viewing panel will be in the billiard/entertainment room with the panel curving up towards the ceiling. The reason for the curve is so I can put the "wave machine" as I saw in the Tropical Diver and this viewing panel will be close to sixty feet long. The right side of the tank will be the viewing panel viewable from the indoor pool.

In a house this size I'm not worried about the cost, just doing it right.

Subscribed! Sounds like a project that I don't want to miss as it develops.

You are likely already following this thread, but if not, read 9ball's thread of his build in canada http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1811725

Of course the size is not the same, but his approach and detail seeking and implementing best practices for a large build (or any build for that matter) seems second to none. A lot of great things to be learned from all of the knowledge in that thread.

Good luck!

Way to think big! (15,000) and HUGE! (200,000) :D
If/When it happens I will definitely be tagging along on your build thread. Don't let the dream die!

Thanks. I was told that this may be the biggest reef tank in the world, forget biggest private. I'm not sure if it is true though. One of my good friends who works with a lot of different networks offered to put me in touch with Discovery, maybe an hour special for the build? I don't know... there is ALOT of planning to do and it will be a while until I start the thread. As I said, we are still looking for the property for the house to sit on.

In the mean time, I am still happy with my 250.
