I bought a small chunk of brain coral the other day for a good price that has several heads. The normal color, seen on most of the coral, is kind of a pearlescent white and the centers are a bright, lime green. There are parts of the coral, on the outer tissue, that is kind of yellowish. Basically, it looks as if it lost its 'pearlescence.'
I thought illness at first, but upon closer inspection, it looks as if the affected heads may be dividing. Is this something that happens when corals divide? I'm pretty new to the game and have no experience with this, so division is just a guess. the discoloration isn't localized to any one area on the whole coral and there isn't a head that's completely discolored or one that has a discolored part next to a head with full color.

sorry I don't have pics right now. I won't be able to get them for a while.

Have no information about dividing - only scolymia had grown another, smaller mouth, just like mushrooms do that.

I had few damaged discolored (bleached, splotched, weak color) brain type corals, with tissue recession, all, but trachyphillia, recovered in a few months (scolymia, symphyllia, cynarina, lobophyllias). Safe place and food - that was all.
