New BTA question

It was just changing its water to help it get use to its new home..They can do that several times daily, or a few times durring the day. The usually stay deflated for several hours and then turn back to normal. Just wait. it will go back to normal, don't change a thing to your water unless you have high levels of some thing bad in your water. Then do small water changes untill the levels are stable. I would never lower my salinity because they like sg 1.025. I would raise it back to 1.025 (35ppt) slowly. I wouldn't add anying that you can't test for either. It is possible to add too much iodine. Just wait and watch..if it starts to fall apart like around the foot or you see holes in places where there shouldn't be one..then it is dead. If you think it is dead and don't see any of these signs. Then lift it out of the tank and smell it..if there is no smell it is still alive, if it smells really bad then it is dead.
 
what about the stomach parts hanging way out? I read that was pretty bad..

if not that, what would be the sign that you need to quarantine the nem?

I dont see any degridation on the body . It is inflated but the mouth is still wide open with the gut sticking out. My concern is the female perc was picking on the guts last night.
The water temp was a bit high around 84.7 and I moved my lilghts away about 4" high, could the temp be the cause of stress?

Mine has done that too..I don't know why they do that durring a water change its just what they do some times. They look really pathetic while getting rid of waste. I really could see a lot of the insides of my bta a few times. Then hours later it went back to normal.
 
alhought the good news is it did not bleach to the point of becoming white and has still maintained some of its color.
 
I really never heard of a clown picking at the bta while its deflated..so I don't know what to tell you about that. I would just leave it alone. If it bothers you enough you could put it in one of those floating breeding things to keep a close eye on it and keep your clowns from causing it any further damage. I personally wouldn't mess with the bta at this point. A picture would help alot.
 
for starters i would probably stop doing everything. come back in another few hours, and try to work on cooling the tank...if the light is the cause of the overheating, adding a fan blowing across the top of your tank should decrease it greatly.

how long have you had that light in that position? did you just add or move the light? or did you just notice the overheating when the light is on?

i wouldnt add iodine or anything else to the tank, amm/nites/nates/po4 all at zero is good, just work on getting to 1.025 slowly and keep everything stable. i do think running carbon while going through this may help some.

slow and steady wins the race: makes your changes slowly (which means fighting the urge to do something...anything!) and keep your parameters steady.

well, they were picking at the guts while it was inflated; I had feed the clowns too so they were not hungry.
 
I'll tried to get pictures last night and the problem is the BTA is facing inside the tank and the foot is attached to the front glass towards the middle of the tank. I tried to take a pic from the side and could not get a good resolution.
