New cam and new coral babies pics

Well, I broke down and bought a new camera.
The Rebel XTi that Compusa has on sale this week.
All I can say is... wow!
My last cam was also a Canon (Powershot S2 IS), and I loved the look of the photos, especially the macros.
This one blows it away... it even takes great macros with just the stock 18-55mm kit lens that comes with the basic bundle.

My first night with the new cam just happened to be Fragstravaganza, so it goes without saying that I just so happen to have some new coral babies to model for me while I learn how to use this beast.

(I haven't read the book yet so since I don't know how to turn the flash off, I just held a napkin in front of the flash for most of these shots.)

PS: Some of these corals were unlabeled so if anyone can positively ID some of these frags I'd be grateful.

Errrr,.. ummm... yeah, honey... I told you those $5 frags are really big... yeah, that's it... just a big frag of Rose Milli...

As you can see from the pics I'm just starting to learn the new camera.
I actually threw away about a hundred blurry pics just to get these few halfway decent ones.
I'm sure there'll be plenty more to come in the near future...

looks nice how much was the camera?
It's onsale right now for $799 plus a free 1Gig CF memory card.
They've also got 2Gig Ultra II CF memory cards onsale for $35.

I was originally just going to get the latest model of my other camera (S3 IS) for half the price, but I'm glad now that I talked myself into this one.
No buyer's remorse here. :D

Now I just gotta learn to use the dang thing. I've gotten so used to having anti-shake built-in that I have to relearn how to hold still while I'm shooting now.

Target carries one of the Cannon digital SLR cameras also for about $699.99 I don't remember the model number so it might not be the same one you got.

If other people are looking for a similar camera you might try there.

Hey Loyal, I just received my XTi this week as well. To turn the flash off, turn the circular knob with all the options all the way to the right. (The last icon is really small but it is the no flash one). Good pics btw!

If anyone else is looking at getting an XTi I recommend looking on eBay. I found this company, Empire Digital, selling a package for 744.98 shipped (694.99 was the buyout). It came with the camera, the lens, 2 gig CF card, tripod, camera case, USB adapter for CF cards and a lens cleaning kit. The only thing you should know is that they will have one of their salesman call you the day after the sale to try and sell you an extra or two.

NICE PICS AND FRAGS, thanks for the heads up on Canon's latest model the (S3 IS) for half the price. $ 319 at walmart for a canon dslr body and lens wow, and it has macro from zero to 50cm, that is one sweet camera. and it's a Canon.

You have a lot of nice frags. Where did you get them?

All the sps frags came from ReefLife in Cooper City, Eco-Reef in Pompano, and the end-of-night auctions from the monthly FMAS meetings.
The softies came from Big Al's in Tamarac, ReefLife in Cooper City, and the end-of-night auctions from the monthly FMAS meetings.

I'm almost ready to start fragging again.
If you want, let me know what you're interested in and I'll save you a frag or two.
