New camera and a lens question

I just got a new DSLR camera. The Cannon digital rebel d300 It is great and I need to relearn everything from my high school photography classes. First of all how do these look? Second question is, what are some good affordable lenses I should be looking at. I really want a macro lens and good zoom. Thanks again and let me know what you think of these.

Most people here use the 100mm F/2.8 USM and have great results (including myself). As for zoom, that all depends on how much you want. The 28-105mm F/3.5-4.5 USM gets great reviews and I really like mine. I also have an Sigma 18-50mm F/2.8 which I really like for wide angle. My next purchase is going to be a Canon 70-200mm F/4L Check out fredmiranda.com for reviews.
