new camera, nano, and aneneme

well Christmas came early in my house. On black Friday I decided to get a new camera. I had a 8 year old cyber shot that the battery door was taped together. well got a new 7.2 mp cybershot.

I also got a new gbta for my reef tank. it settled right in wed night. it has since moved kind of between two rocks. I put it in the tank wed night and the clown was hosting in it this morning.

I am also starting a new nano project. I bought a 12g nano cube. My wife is going to use this in her third grade classroom. I have started on the stand. I hope to get it done by the weekend. the plan is to get the tank up and running and take it to school after the first of the year.

I was wondering what people keep in there nano's? I am wanting something that is easy to care for. she does not care what I put in it but she wants stuff that the kids can see a lot (nothing that hides all the time) and something that she can use as a teaching tool.

I'd go with some zoas, mushrooms, etc. and a couple of little ocellaris clowns.

In my 24 I have some clowns from Kathy. Also a bicolor blenny but he hides a lot. Xenia is cool to kids, it waves around a lot. Most people who see my tank love it. I some yellow polyps too, nice and colorful but you could do the same with some zoos. Maybe a couple neon gobies if they won't get too big.

I have some loose mushrooms in my frag tank that are pretty that you can have(probaly 3or4) also have kenya tree frags, pink anthalia, xenia, and some plain colored(greenish brown) zoas that you can have for the low low price of driving to ramsey and picking them up.

I would make the base of the stand more non-tip-able if it's in a 3rd grade classroom. Stuff happens.

xenia, maybe encrusting gorg...long soft stuff like that that moves around a lot...kids probably dont think SPS is too cool, plus you'd have to get into lighting, blah blah blah

well I have worked on the stand tonight. I have it all together and trim put on. I have to find something to put on the bottom for legs and fill all the screw and nail holes. then a few hundred coats of poly and it will be done.

the hardest part of the whole thing is bending the strip of oak around the curved front. I soaked it in water for a day and a half. I put drywall screws in the ends to hold it. hopefully when it dries I can take the drywall screws out of it and it will stay with just finish nails. time will tell.

Looks nice Like the open look under the tank. Is it all made with 3/4" oak plywood?

What do you mean for Legs, Little knob like? Why not just let it sit on the floor?

ya its all 3/4 oak playwood i had it all left over from a few poker tables i made. that is why i had to find a peice of trim for the top. i was thinking of putting some little knobs for legs but i think i am just going to let it set on the floor. it is more stable that way.

Fox corals and Blastos are great LPS for NANO's.
Zoa's would also work great!
For fish I would recommend the smaller gobies...

he said his wife was taking care of it.......i'd scratch the blastos. Don't know anything about fox corals.

In a 12 gallon just get the 2 clows, any more fish and you're asking for hair algae. Corals, get xenia, anthelia, maybe some type of zoos at the bottom. Kids like stuff that move, and how upset would they be when it dies if it's hard to keep?

What will you be doing with this in the summer? Schools get very hot in the summer.

Try to mod the pump in that tank to get more flow otherwise you'll end up with nasty sand i hear.
